Adam Thole's tilt-sensing 360 controller

Burdened with the need to tinker with accelerometers, Adam Thole finally thought up of an idea that would warrant the purchase of one. He thought of modifying the Xbox 360 controller and replace one of the analog sticks with an accelerometer based motion-sensor. Hey, if the other consoles have motion/tilt sensing, why not the Xbox 360?

While some commenters would like to decry his humble project by saying things that range from the completely unfounded ("Fake"), to the more intelligent and somewhat constructive ("You should make it so the analogs aren't useless at the same time"), we would like to commend Adam Thole for his hard work.

You just have to credit the guy for trying to give the 360 controllers some tilt function. Here's his video:

We now wonder what Bill Gates would think about all this.

For more info on Thole's project, and to get a more in-depth sense of the how the thing was developed, you can use our read-link below. It leads to his blog where the controller's many phases of development are detailed.

tilt control is aweful anyway. every game ive played so far with tilt control (especially the motorstorm demo) is more precise just using sticks anyway.

At least you could actually DO something with that dumb X360 laptop, wtf is the point of this? No 360 game has tilt support, it's useless.

It replaces one of the analog sticks, fool. It would be practical if there was a switch to select if you want it to control the left, right, or neither analog stick.

First off, Xbox 360 isn't "tring to be a poor mans playstation". This is just a simple mod done by a creative fan. Secondly, Blu-ray drive? That would be stabbing itself in the foot, as HD-DVD is already superior to Blu-ray, but if the Xbox 360 did actually implement blu-ray, the PS3 would be SOL because that's the main thing it's got going for it. Thirdly, a blue tooth headset (And I dunno how this snuck in there, maybe because the writer got confused between blu-ray and blue tooth. I guess it's not hard seeing as how they both start with blue...) would be nice, but I've already got a wireless headset that is cheaper and works just as good, if not better than a blue tooth headset. In the end, remember, just because something starts with the word "blue" doesn't mean it's automatically the best. (Even if blue IS your favorite color)

If you watch closely, there is a noticable delay between when he tilts the controller and when the immage onscreen moves, especially on the airplane demonstration. I think that would be a huge problem for most games because reaction timing is often critical.

That delay happens on that game, thumbsticks or not. i noticed the delay when he turned one way, then the other. in that game, the plane is not going to immediately bank the other direction when you push the thumbstick that way.
