Activision wtf - Image 1After Activision acquired Red Octane and its Guitar Hero franchise, developer Harmonix didn't trip over. As a comeback, they're dishing out Rock Band with more instruments than their previous games.

So what does Activision think of this? They just said,  "[It] wasn't surprising that [Guitar Hero] has attracted imitators." In short, they're calling Harmonix and its Rock Band title a Guitar Hero copycat.

As if that wasn't enough, Activision gave themselves a pat on the back by boasting 200,000 Guitar Hero II song packs sold on XBLM.

They are also quite confident that Harmonix' new title won't hurt Guitar Hero, claiming they have a competitive advantage thanks to significant brand recognition.

Guess what? Harmonix created Guitar Hero and those song packs - the same song packs and the first Guitar Hero that spurred the franchise to stardom. Seriously.

» Guitar Freaks?

Um... Hasn't Guitar Freaks been out much longer than Guitar Hero? Sadly it has been limited only to Japan hence the choice of songs and indeed it it geared more towards arcade play (due to less buttons) but it doesn't make it any less of a game.

Also they've had link ups to Drummania for as long as I can remember for 2 guitars (lead and bass) and drums to play together.

» yep

Guitar Freaks and Drummania are out on the PS2 and they are really great! You can play 2 guitars and drums at the same time and switch between lead guitar and bass.

The visuals on Guitar Freaks are MUCH better when it comes to seeing the notes drop down on the screen. If anything Guitar Heroes totally copied GF when it came to multiplayer (different guitars) and Rock Band is only going to be another copycat of the Guitar Freaks + Drummania combo.

Guitar Heroes is full of themselves and are probably a bit concerned about healthy competition.. it's nervous laughter you are hearing.
