Microsoft has confirmed through Corporate Vice President Moshe Lichtman that the company has indeed acquired 3DV Systems, the technology firm who developed the motion sensing technology used in Project Natal.

Rumors first surfaced in February of Microsoft buying out 3DV, followed by an announcement from 3DV's holding company, Elron Electronics, that they had indeed "entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of substantiality all of its assets" to an unnnamed third party.

Whether or not 3DV's technology was merely used as a supplement for Natal, or if it was wholly developed based on it, was not commented on by Lichtman. He did disclose, however, that they hired new staff after the purchase.

» Well maybe

My MS sense says that I think they bought this company out before they got anywhere to prevent any future lawsuits.

I do recall reading somewhere that MS stated that Natahl had nothing to do with any technology purchased from third parties.
