360 wireless headset owners report problems

The forums at Xbox.com are buzzing with complaints: the wireless headset is buggy. And Microsoft hasn't really responded to the problem. XBL Radio reported the following problems:
  • constant communication drops
  • excessive beeping during conversations
  • (low) clarity of dialogue during chats
  • very small line-of-sight area
The "constant communication drops" is the one that concerns us the most, because we can see how this problem really makes the wireless headset useless. What happens? The wireless headset keeps on beeping, then dropping the conversation. When the conversation drops, your buddy's voice comes out of the TV speakers. Then less than a few seconds later, the sound is back on the wireless headset. But this keeps happening.

In short, XBL Radio describes the headset as "more of a hassle than a convenience." What's been Microsoft's response? There hasn't been any acknowledgment. Another website, 2old2play.com, reports the same thing.

If these issues don't get fixed, it's back to the wires. And this wonderful accessory gets a bad name. Too bad. We think it looks so pretty, like a Cardassian Galor class battlecruiser.

half true

This may be happening to a few people, but for me I have just been having a little bit of beeping but no converstaions dropped....yet anyways.

..

I have been using the wireless headset and I found several problems. 1 private chats, i can initiate a private chat with a buddy without a problem, however is i start multiple chats and switch between them some I will not be able to hear some of the friends but they can hear me well. 2 During game session sometimes it work perfectly and sometime it will start beeping and flashing and drop -out. 3 Some users reported really bad interference with the audio. I had to switch back to wired headset until the next update that will probably fix the issue.

Agreed

I've also heard beeping every so often but never have I had a dropped conversation.

I get the beeping sometimes too, but my conversations don't drop either. It works great besides that...

Low clarity

Yeah, when I was talking to a friend, he sounded different so I asked if he got a new mic. He said he got the wireless one. I couldn't believe how sh*tty it sounded. Far below the quality of even the default headset. Does anybody else get people telling them it sounds like crap? Hopefully my friend was using it wrong, it's not worth $60 if it's supposed to sound like that.

Who’s the real loser? PS3, X360, Wii, or something else?

There’re mainly 2 kinds of people needed to make a console in the industry. First category is the people who can make the hardware. They make computer parts. Second sort is those people who can make software side. These people make Operating Systems, other utilities and games. All these people have studied very hard and have lived diligently during their young lives. That’s why they became 1st raters in the society and have good lives with fabulous quality. Those people who buy their products (products mean hardware and software both, got it kids?) are called gamers. The answer to my question (answer to my title) is the gamers; gamers are the real losers; losers in real lives. These idi tic guys waste tons of time in their young lives to play games again and again. Playing games is just one of the addictions, such as cigarette, drug, alcohol, etc. Heavy percentage of all gamers is called game addicts. These game addicts are the real problems in our society. They need help – all sorts of helps - but in order to help them, other good and decent people have to suffer. Because there’re millions of 3rd raters like you kids, other good, decent and achieved people must pay more taxes to support you guys who can’t even maintain some proper and decent lives. Moreover, most criminals in this country are 3rd raters; therefore, other good people must pay cr zy kinds of taxes to maintain prisons which can house you guys. If you’re under 30, you will never understand what I teach to you here due to the fact you’re too d mb and so hateful against the society; just wait 10 more years then you will know all about your own lives. I feel sorry for you guys for having worthless lives. No, that was a downright lie. If you are a 3rd rater, then you have a life which is so bad, you can’t even call it a life. That’s why you don’t even try to listen what other people say to you. If you’re not d mb, you must have a decent and better life. Usually a game addict means someone who plays a game (or games) more than 3 days a week and more than 1 hour for one day. Also, if you own 1 or more console, then you are addicted, too. This is just a fact in life, kids. Try to memorize everything I say in this comment. If you are able to play games a lot, that only means you are having a worthless life – you have too much free time. Other achieved people don’t even have time to play games more than 1 hour for a day. One of my classmates was a game addict, and I kicked on his face pretty hard when he dropped out of university. He was a member of a group with me and he didn’t do any group project. He also said plainly stup d things. He said once that Sony sold 100 million PS2 consoles. That means there’re more than 100 million people in the world who love games. 100 million is less than the length of an average person’s d ck. You kids and that friend of mine can’t even think properly or logically or reasonably. There’re 6.5 billion people. Only 1.5 % of all human population owns the PS2; this means 1 lifeless jack ss out of 100. Most game addicts think that most people in the world play games. Game addicts occupy the most stupid and lowest rank in the society. I’m repeating this - they can’t even think properly with clear minds.

Short description

ok, A. . Mr 'Long Quote' is a retard.. and B that wireless mic has gotten me kicked out of games due to the beeping.. heck i didn't even know that the noise it was making was a beep because the user has NO IDEA that it's doing it.
by BlaseCasper316 - 2006-11-19 23:13:22
weird...

my headset works perfectly, the only beeping I get is when its low on batlife or I have it muted, no one has told me its beeping, or they have trouble hearing me. and my recorded voice messeges sound fine before I send them... maybe they just got some defective units or something...

Acually the PS3 has dozens of head sets.

I have personally tested over 20 Blue-Tooth headsets with the PS3 and every single one of them work. I tested it at my friends Verizon store. I believe the problem with the Xbox360 lies within the hardware. If I had to guess, Microsoft didn't built this from the ground up, they probably took a wireless headset and installed the wireless protocol the Xbox360 uses. This could be the problem as the communication protocol wasn't designed for the hardware ot the other way around. This will probably be something that will require a software update for the Xbox360, or a firmware update for the headset.

by - 2006-11-20 06:04:41
Having issues as well

Just recieved mine and basically it doesn't work, it's line of sight only, I have mine in behind a door and it doesn't work even if it's 3 feet away... seems like you have to have line of sight as the signal is too weak to work. my controllers work perfectly.
by - 2006-11-20 06:24:10
same here

I also have drop outs and people complaining that the headset is making a horrible noise, also people cannot hear me loud enough its too quiet. I rang Microsoft and they wont do anything either.
by - 2006-11-20 06:32:29
wasted $60

I bought one as soon as they came out.. now I get nothing but complaints over xbox live.. playing GoW last night everyone is yelling at me that my mic is *$&%ing up the game.. thanks a lot M$ I'm going to try to return it today.
by - 2006-11-20 06:36:36
No problems at all

I got one and it's flawless. I've had no problems at all with it. But it did take me a bit to figure out that the headset beeps occasionally while it's muted to let you know it's on mute, nice feature actually.
by - 2006-11-20 08:24:12
You've posted this exact same post before. WTF?

Stupid troll.

Wireless 5hitty headset

Anothe pile of microsoft 5hit, ive only had it for 1 week and it keeps connecting to channel 2 and also only works max 4 meters away DONT BUY 1 OF THESE UNITS
by - 2006-11-30 18:30:59
same problem

mine did the same, it would only go to port 2,3,or 4,and to get it to reconnect i had to restart and turn everything on at the same time, then it would drop and i would have to repeat the process, text support told me to get a new one, i did and it did the same thing.
by - 2006-12-01 03:59:44
more problems

To add to the problem mention in OP, I don't seem to get the cutting out problems, but I have a hell of a time getting the thing to connect on channel 1 along with my controller. Tonight for example, it refuses to share channel one with the controller, rather insisting on assigning itself to channel 2 which is useless as there's no profile signed in..... GG
by - 2006-12-01 16:08:03
Same Channel Issue...

I have the same problem with the headset starting on channel one then getting kicked off by the controller. It's funny that the two got along together when I first bought the headset but now I cannot get them to get along. Anyone have any idea what to do? I've tried all the trick that I've read so far...
