Yet more details about Soul Calibur: Legends |
Ó
A massive multi-hit combo of info that's sure to blast you out of the ring in this detail-packed update about upcoming Nintendo Wii title Soul Calibur: Legends. Let's get cracking before the round timer runs out. FIGHT!
As we've already reported, Soul Calibur: Legends doesn't have the one-on-one fighting system we've grown to love with its past incarnations. But rather a third-person slash 'em up system reminiscent of Devil May Cry.
With the Wiimote, players will be able to hack and slash their way through mobs of ninjas, mummies, and whatever else Namco Bandai has in store for them - all while traipsing through dungeons and pyramid interiors, as well as other unrevealed locations.
Part of the character roster's been revealed and it's not without a few surprises: the unveiling of a completely new character named Iska, a 16-year-old boy of royal blood who just happens to be travelling alongside Siegfried Schtauffen. Siegfried's also joined by veterans Taki and Mitsurugi, with all three sword-wielders confirmed to be playable as well as the buxom Ivy.
Players itching to put their Wiimote-fu into play with Soul Calibur: Legends will be happy to know that the game fully takes advantage of the Wii's motion-tracking capabilities. The control scheme is two-fold: the Nunchuck moves your character and is used to perform special maneuvers such as evasion.
The Wiimote, on the other hand, is utilized for the game's signature horizontal/vertical striking system (slash the Wiimote horizontally or vertically to perform horizontal or vertical attacks). There are also buttons assigned for jumping, blocking and so on. So you'll be fully equipped to handle any mob that comes in your way.
But it's not just a horde of bumbling ninjas or reanimated mummies out for your blood - you'll be facing off against traps and obstacles in the dungeons you'll be trekking. Players should also keep in mind that in Legends, that is where your fighting DOES matter - so don't just stay in one place. Move for the higher ground advantage.
Other than traps, you'll also have your hands full with boss battles. One interesting tidbit about this is that you'll be able to select two characters for this fight, and be able to switch between them freely. While we don't want to assume, could this probably mean something similar to a tag in-tag out system that other fighting games have had in the past?
And last but not least, the weapons will make more sense this time as far as their different qualities are concerned. Let's say you select a sword that's imbued with flame, your moveset will reflect that choice, giving you moves that actually put the flame ability of your sword to good use. Sweet.
Well, that's all the info we have about Soul Calibur: Legends as of this writing, besides the fact that the game is reportedly 40% complete and is slated for a winter release in Japan (lucky them). If you're still hungry for more, just remember to check back here for all updates concerning this highly-anticipated title.

This game is going to be AWESOME! Granted, I wish Wii got a new SC fighter as well, but frankly, I'm not going to complain (especially because it's a Wii exclusive). Besides, it could be worse for Wii owners; where's the Soul Calibur love for the 360, Bandai Namco?
