Yahoo Japan Conducts Next-Gen Survey

The Japanese Yahoo site is currently running a poll among its registered members. The question is rather simple: What next-gen console are you going to buy? The information to follow are all dated September 19 and the total number of voters is 30,511.

Xbox 360 has a very comfortable lead with 19,512 voters saying they are still going to choose Microsoft's console. This number of votes constitutes 64% of the total sample. On the other hand, it is a close fight between Nintendo (15% will buy Wii) and Sony (13% will buy PS3). Of all the three, only Xbox 360 is currently out in the market. The other two are scheduled for launch later this year.

A minor segment of the sample (2%) says they would just buy both two upcoming consoles. Finally, 2,233 of the voters just couldn't make their minds up yet and decided to compare the three further. For all we know, this 8% cold very well be the smart ones. Because sometimes, it is just better to wait first and see.

Big news :there will be two versions of GT 4 HD for the PS3: Gran Turismo HD: Premium, a GT 5 prologue that includes two courses and around 30 cars, and Gran Turismo HD: Classic, which doesn't feature any courses or cars, but is designed as an online platform. These online races are rumored to support up to 20 cars online. We will have more info on TGS.

I'm less concerned about the authenticity of the poll than your reactions. It's sad. "Oh, it must be flawed!" "lolz total BS!!1!" And what if it wasn't? What if this was accurate. What if the Japanese do want a 360 now? Does your world come crashing down? Does it confuse your Japanophilia? Really. It ain't a big deal since most of you probably live in the states anyway. Worry about here and not there.

I think they have a right to be astonished. Maybe not as much as they are, but it's quite justified to question the authenticity of a poll that seems to contradict current data.

That aside, I find it odd that Yahoo! Japan would be named what it is instead of "Yahoo! Nihon" or that "Japan" is written in English instead of Hiragana "Nihon".

Just for a reference, on this list, the PS3 has most number of titles (PS3 > X360 > PC > Wii). Moreover if I measure the qualities of titles, it goes like this: PS3 > X360 & PC > Wii. So many titles which were released so far have been multi-platformers; and in most cases, different versions of same title have received different review scores because of many reasons. Take an example. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was a multi-platformer. X360 version received 95%, Xbox got 60% and PS2 acquired 40% on average. This trend is same for most multi-platformers. If you are a MS fanboy and happy with X360 version of Assassin’s Creed, go ahead. If one title is released on PS3 and X360 both; then if PS3 version can receive 90%, on the other hand, X360 version may receive 75%. Moreover I’m nobody’s fanboy.

I have *never* seen such a biased list... if its just your personal preference thats fine :) but you are missing alot of 360 games and even Wii/PC games plus put already released/rated games in the wrong section

Oblivion has been out a long time... and is generally a 95%+ and minimum a 90%+

(check out gamespot for example... they even list other sites ratings and give an adverage)

World of StarCraft has not been announced

Halo 3 isn't even on the list... and its the most regognised xbox game around, if you like shooters like say.. resistance fall of man (looks like damn sweet game btw) then Halo 3 should be there too

Blue Dragon is the most anticiated game in japan for the xbox and is constantly on the top 10 of their wish lists and Lost Odyssey is also one they aparently are after... again not on your list

... well i could go on and on...

and before you say some of those dont have 'real-time movies and pictures' why in the world would you include games that is not even announced/exist?

The PS3 will rock... its a great system with great games comming... but you do yourself NO favours by being biased

wow! I saw that same comment on a different forum...nice! I kindof disagree though. Cause you can never know what the the score to a game will get. I thought suikoden IV was going to rock ass but it ended up being raped...the game wasn't that bad though...stupid ship. But really, I can't wait for games like Alan Wake, Mass effect, bioshock, fear, stranglehold, basically all the cool games. Halo 3...well...Halo 2 was over-rated. like extremely so. Half-Life is 100x better in my opinion. Mainly cause the music is CRAZY AWESOME and the art direction is wickedly tight. So yeah...What was i talking about again? whatever, xbox sucks. Wii sucks. Sony's rock hard.

They have sold quite a bit more than 16,000 360s.....In the first two days in Japan they sold about 4 times that much, but thats still less than the original Xbox did in that timeframe over there.

In case you haven't noticed, console Legend of Zelda games have consistently received perfect 10's in both EGM and Game Informer, save for Wind Waker, which got like what, a 9.7 on one review out of 3.

Yes ContrAss. Your list is biased. I'm not saying this because I like Zelda more than Halo or because I like Mario better than MGS, because I don't, and that's not the point anyway.

You can't just post a list of "Good" games and NOT call it biased. The whole basis of reviewing games carries the inevitability of bias. What makes a good review is controlling that bias.

So if you honestly think that your little "PS3 > X360 & PC > Wii" heirarchy is infallibly correct, then you might want to think again, this time in consideration of the fact of OPINION.

I think the poll could have sense since on December blue Dragon comes out, and for 200$ more less you get the console and the game. If you consider that there's no killer app in Japan with PS3 (Resistence has no interest at all there), plus only 100.000 consoles available and the steep price, it has some logic. Besides, Trusty Bell, another impressive RPG from Namco, is coming in 2006 for 360 too.

And as proof, check this: http://www.jeuxpo.com/afficher_news-4353.html That's the list of most wanted games in japan from famitsu. There's not even 1 of the PS3 launch games in that list among the 20 most wanted games. And two wii games, both in worse positions than Blue Dragon. That may explain something about the poll results.

what's your point 22? It's the 9th posistion, even behind everybody's tennis...Point is, for 225 bucks, the japanese can buy all the current gen titles on there. Actually roughly 4 or so but still. Not to mention that 100,000 is the initial launch numbers in november something. Blue Dragon comes out December something. I'd have a hunch that 100,000 people or so buying a ps3--not including the numbers after that week--won't be going to the 360 not even a month after. oh yeah, also the wii comes out. huh...well crap, thats like alot of people not going to buy a 360 cause they already bought something.

And seriously, what does discounting your own console 200 bucks means to people? Are you happy microsoft is hacking off prices for the japanese exclusively? Tell you right now, only reason why japanese developers are even on the 360 is because microsoft is paying them big bucks or they're taking a risk, much like team ninja and capcom do. And that's a opinion.

Enchament Arms was exclusive too guys, don't forget that. It must have sold like wild fire because it was a jrpg in japan! OMFG it didnt?! haha, no it didn't. Don't even get me started on Ninja Gaiden. I bought the *****ing xbox just for that game mainly and now look...Now that i think about it, what ever happened to Phantom Dust? Oh well, I'm just talking to myself about that one :)
