Yabause Wii unofficial alpha 1 (Sega Saturn emulator) - Image 1The Sega Saturn may be dead, but its legacy lives on. Developer Markus1981 has recently announced the release of Yabause Wii, an unofficial Wii port of the Saturn emulator originally developed for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and the Dreamcast.

The homebrew's Alpha 1 build is currently able to run a couple of the Saturn's games at about 5 to 10 fps, so a Panzer Dragoon session might be a little too optimistic for now. Here are some additional details regarding this release (quoting Markus1981's notes):
  • Cue files can't be loaded anymore
  • Just put the iso in the same folder as the elf file and name it "game.iso"
  • Tested with bubble bubble and a European iso. (Runs at good speed)
  • All credit goes to team yabause and their fabulous open source project.
  • Enjoy and visit their website www.yabause.org
  • Source code is included in the rar
  • Changes only in file yui.c
Further details are available in the Neu Textdokument text in the file bundle. You may also want to visit Markus1981's release thread via the source link if you're interested in reading what the developer has to say. Keep in touch in case we run into any more updates regarding this promising-looking project.

hope that this is gonna be something big. I'd love to play my old saturn games on my Wii directly from their original CD's. :D
