As the fifth in the series of  the Xfire Debate Club: The Two-Handed Sword discussion of gaming community issues, Xfire will be tackling the ongoing battle between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft over the console arena. And prepping up for a serious and formal discussion, Xfire has invited a series of guests for the heated debate on who will eventually win the next-generation console wars.

Xfire debate club tackles

Appointed as moderator is Dan Hsu of Electronic Gaming Monthly, while the PlayStation 3-likely advocate Paul "Lefein" Shields, Xbox 360 critic and Xboxic editor Niels Keurentjes, and Nintendo gamer and Cubed3 editor James Temperton will take the three sides of the debate triangle.

Other guests to tie their two-cents in is Gamasutra's Brandon Sheffield, Engadget's Peter Rojas, and Joystiq's Chris Grant. The debate started today, June 7, 2007, at 5 p.m. EDT (2 p.m. PDT) and also includes interested third party participators from the more than seven million PC gamer community base. All discussions will be policed for facts and basis, and will tackle the following facets of the console battle:
  • Which console is the best value?
  • Which has the best online play?
  • Which will you still be playing a year from now?
  • Who has the best exclusive games?
More on the debate results as they come in after the debate. PC gamers and Xfire members can tag along now.

» Im calling it now, place your bets!

What console is the best value? Xbox 360 ... Equal graphics to the PS3 minus 200 for a BR player.

Which has the best online play? Xbox 360 ... Live has a great community of over 7million users. Most games are multiplayer and all are Live enabled.

Which will you be playing a year from now? No comment ... This question is all per preferences of the individual.

Which console has the best exclusive games? Again, all comes down to taste. But I would choose Xbox 360 yet again ... Just got Shadowrun and its addictively fun.

great, another fuel to the fire. this is why the world is engulf in terror and insecurity. everyone wants to debate on everything even the kitchen sink. just shut up and play what you want, is it that hard to do a simple thing as that?

Debate over. Anyone care to debate? You won't win anyway.

» Value PS3 hands down

for $600 you get a next gen console argue it better or equal to 360 graphics. a 360 is $400 and Ps3 $600

PS3 GIVES YOU

Blu Ray

Wifi Built in

Memcard Reader

HDMI 1.3

60gb hdd (WHICH IS EXPANDABLE WITH ANY BRAND HDD)

360 GIVES YOU

20gb hdd

ELITE GIVES YOU

HDMI 1.1

For $200 a blu ray player and built in wifi is damn cheap then you get hdmi. Also 360 has an addon HD dvd how much of a pain is an addon? Needs its own power supply to.

» I agree

Even as a die hard PS3 lover, I agree with the 360 part too

» Das true but...

by Eclipze_ - 2007-06-07 18:12
» Plus on da price

400$ plus online. and blu-ray players cost about 1,000 dollars so...hell yea a ps3 is pretty cheap 4 what it has inside

» Wow

Damn, I consider myself a nerd, but an xfire debate club? Now that is nerdy

I guess for me it'd go like this

Best value: Not sure exactly what this means, if it means how much playtime you'll get out of the thing and fun you'll have with it ATM it's the 360 by far, if you're talking about best price for what you get it's obviously the PS3. You're getting about $1400 worth of electronics in a $600 package

Best online play: 360 by far, the PlayStation Network doesn't even compare to Xbox Live, and I guess it's just my opinion but Home doesn't really interest me so I don't think anything is going to change on that front

Still be playing a year from now: Since I'll probably have a PS3 a year from now (since games will actually be out by then) I'll be playing all three. Some amazing games will be out for all systems a year from now

Best exclusive games: This is all preference, since I don't care at all for most of Sony's franchises (FF (well not Sony's but still), Clank, Jak, etc.) it's the 360 for me. Again, all preference however

Xbox 360 exclusives:

--------------------------------------

Dead rising

Lost planey

Test drive

gears of war

kameo

viva pinata

C&C3

Shadow run

halo3

blue dragon

lost odyssey

trust bell: copin no yume

mass effect

Ps3 can't compare in means of exclusives, sure its better price and i'll be playing it in a years time but no one can say right now it has more exclusives than xbox 360.. I mean the DS has better games than the ps3 right now.

by Ludikhris - 2007-06-07 22:13
» 360's exclusives

Many of those games are now going to be thrown into the "multi platform" category now. 360 was the only system out when the first versions of many of those games came out. Gears for instance will probably port over next year and the sequel will probably be on both. This is just a trend in the market and we have all learned you cant expect a series to stay exclusive if it's third party.

Square will probably start developing for all systems too but it will be a slow development. You can bet your ass MGS5 will be multiplatform as well.

This is coming from a proud Sony owner. I am just realistic. It is getting to the point where the only thing you can take to the bank are the first party games. Which I preffer Sonys to MS by a HUGE margin. I like action and RPGs not shooters and shooters. FPS is cool and I will always hold them dear but Resistance is a good substitute for Halo when you get God of War with it. At least that is my personal opinion.

by Noin - 2007-06-07 22:22
» ^ sad *****got

You fail you f'cking noob

gears of war - will be on the PC

lost planet - is on the PC

shadowrun - will be on the PC

C&C 3 - is on the PC

mass effect - will be on the PC

halo 3 - will be on the PC (Halo 1 and Halo 2 is)

test drive - is on the PC

so exclusives up your c'ock you noob f'uck

» fanboy dreams

Many games will go multiplatform which ones?

If gears of war is the only one you can think of consdering how your badly mistaken on that one you are id like to hear the rest.

Theyve already said theres no chance of it going on any other console as its published by MS and due to the overwhelming support theyve recieved by MS to make it the hit it is today. And weve heard many times how its another trilogy to run over the xboxs life now halos over. If theres ever been even a slight hint of it sounding like it will ever leave the xbox ive not heard it.

by C4PT - 2007-06-07 23:41
» Ha you G*Y little fanboy

take your ***** out of your ps3 and calm down. Theres no need to act like a little *****gy 10 year old.

Now read the title this is console wars, the pc is not a console hence forth all the games stated above will only be available on one console the 360 to buy a pc capale of playing these games would cost far more than a 360 so for a ps3 gamer to get all these games it would be cheaper to buy a 360.

Besides PC owners will have to wait ages for these to become available.

by meee - 2007-06-07 23:45
» sorry polo

upscaled dvd dont even look close to as good as bluray or hddvd's and id say ps3 has best value 360 has best online play id see my self playing ps3 a eyar from now because afetr halo and masseffect come out i dont see anything else as i am not a gear fan and i do own both consoles

by DOTHED - 2007-06-07 23:47
» .

theres no chance of gears going over to another console theyve already said as thanks to the overwhelming support from microsoft there title wouldnt be the hit it is, and they hardly need to increase the consumer base with the petty number of ps3 owners available

this is clearly fanboy dreams and rumours so i dont know how you can state it with such conviction

by mike - 2007-06-07 23:52
» um not true at all

yea i own both consoels and i can be honest and say gears will never come to sony. but i dont care im not a gears fan. but a few of the games listed are not exclusive such as test drive on ps2 psp pc etc hows that exclusive? half the games you mentioned arent out yet..... so yea let me make a list of sony games since you did the same

Resistance

Killzone 2

Final Fantasy 13

FF vs 13

Ratchet and Clank

God of WAr 3

Gran Turismo

Lair

Heavenly Sword

Unchartered DRakes Fortune

The agency

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Cant beleive i forgot to put the best 1 this late MGS4

Socom Online

Socom Retail 2008

» late late late

the consoles wars has been going on almost a year or 2 now. microsoft is winning the hardcore/softcore players, nintendo is winning the parents and neighbors, and Sony is winning the wisest peoples that thinks ahead and bought an all in one entertainment solution.

by VSG - 2007-06-08 04:02
» of course

XBOX 360,

MODCHIP it,

download game copies off the NG and burn to Disc

or buy burned copies, i order them from shhhh just 5-6 bucks each.

who cares about online, i have the complete xbox 360 game library, 92 percent CRAP games, 3 percent good quality FPS, and 2 percent good quality Driving Games. and most good games are ports from PC.

by KUYA - 2007-06-08 04:35
» to mr value PS3 hands down

stop doing this blah blah thing,

you can do this on every forum/board and theyou will just annoy most people and make the PS3 look bad.

we all know these FACTS.

xbots will not listen whatever we say.

like us they value their choice of brand.

lucky for us we have something valuable and doesnt easily die, shows all BD movies in 1080p, free online, games are alloted 25-50gb so no game companies will have to suffer and cut down games, etc. anyways let them just support their beloved xbox 360,we are not the ones worrying about RROD, we are not the ones paying 6 dollars for song packs, 10 dollars for the revolutionary pacman, 100 dollars for wifi, 90 bucks for 20gb HDD, 180 bucks for 120gb HDD, wifi controllers. and we dont need to pay subscription to online community service.

by Ownerz - 2007-06-08 04:51

Youre forgetting one important thing C4PT. Most PS3 owners have been on your mom. There is no reason to get all butt hurt about it, it just happens.

ONLY HDMI 1.1. Very future proof.

PS3 way ahead of things whereas 360s 2nd attempt not even keepin up.

PS3 has no threat since 360 doesnt have HDDVD/blurray integrated.

» What has Home got to do with online PLAY?

Home's API will be made available to developers. You will be able to matchmake and initiate games from within Home.

These functions will also be available from the XMB (outside of Home)

by Hey C4PT - 2007-06-08 14:29
» What you have to do is the following

You have to remove the hard disk of your XboxS.H.I.T60 and start f.u.c.k.ing the ***** out of that piece of crap. Go F.U.C.K yourself. Oh and by the way the XboxS.H.I.T60 sucks balls big time. Have fun paying to play online. Xbots you gotta love em. They complain about the PS3 price but they don't mind paying top dollar for over priced acessories and Xbox.S.H.I.T Live. I hope that crap piece of ***** you call a console breaks down and gives you the 3 red rings of death.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-06-08 19:00
» KUYA!

You say the "wisest peoples that thinks ahead" bought an "all in one entertainment solution", but when was there an entertainment problem?

By waiting until now I got a stand alone HD-DVD player for $300 + my XBOX is $700 which I can move one into the other room if I want. By having a seperate game console and movie player they last longer too. My PS2 crapped out in 2 years partially because I always watched DVDs on it as well as played games.

Nothing but a stupid article that will spark stupid debate.
