Xbox 360 will win the war - analyst |
Ó
Don't look now, but we've got another analyst predicting that the Microsoft Xbox 360 will win the console war in a close race against the Nintendo Wii, with the Sony PlayStation 3 lagging behind by a significant percentage.Bill Kreher is a full-time analyst for A.G. Edwards who has had his eye on the early goings of the console war. He gives the edge to the Xbox 360 console because of two basic reasons: It was launched a year ahead of its rivals and it has Xbox Live. Kreher noted that the amount of time it took for the Wii and PS3 to be released has shored up a sturdy game library for the game machine. Also, the six million-strong Xbox Live draws gamers to multiplayer bliss.
He said that though PlayStation Home sounds sweet, it will be hard to compete with a rival network that has already established itself. He also noted that the worst thing that could happen is for the PS3 interest to fade even before Sony starts to heat up. In the end, he said that Xbox 360 will have 38 percent of the American market and Sony will get 28 percent.
The remaining 34 percent, he says, will belong to the innovative Nintendo Wii. The wide appeal of the console will shatter the notion that the system is a fad. Kreher says that the niche is viable for Nintendo and it will continue to be in the years to come.
And about the Blu ray advantage of the PS3? Kreher says, "thereÂ’s no assurance that Blu-ray is going to be used in games in any significant way."

The PS3 might do OK, but will still be last in sales and profit (not counting blu ray.)

I'm also tired of hearing about how blueray sales aren't positive for Sony when they have a vast library of movie IP going to the format to make them money, in addition to video game sales.

Bluray is great how could it not be used in any significant way over the next 5 years?
This guy does not know video games!
1st gen ps2 games could fit in 200MBs on a CD-R, while later GT5 took 8GB thats roughly 40x the data consumption.. you may say this only applies to sony consoles but you would be wrong game sizes always increase.
nes, snes, sms and smd games where 20x larger in the final generation and that was when everything was compressed to fit on a cartridge.
Do you honestly think you can compress the data down to a 1:5 ratio without ruining the textures or sound quality?
Swaping disks maybe ok in a rpg but what about action games and racing sims imagine changing discs for access to courses and cars?
i agree that the Xbox2 has a good chance of winning in Northern America, however PS3 will rule in all other territories and Xbox2 doesnt have a chance in asia. and as much as american-analysists like to ignore the rest of the world, americans are much less then 50% of the global population, and a console could win the console war without winning america.
End Rant.

MS may be in the lead at this point and through this and most of next year but even with a 3 million selling game they aren't expanding the base. Just increasing the attach rate. That doesn't look like reaching critical mass to me.
The blu-Ray remark is just ignorant so no need to comment. Besides 360 games can span multiple disks like Blue Dragon and compress like hell. Lowering quality but hey it's possible

XBOX1.
Love that line.....add on, after add on....and now a mere $20 less than the PS3. What a joke.

Anyways, google the "analyst" This piece of ***** has only had one other quote, and it was about gamestop. And the only place I find him listed is on the EA analyst coverage team.
***** I google myself and I have hundreds more hits than that!
So we have some nobody, that people are glad to listen to for their news.
Good job QJ!!! WOOT. WTF have I been saying about journalism. Always check the SOURCE. You can't post ***** that mr common sense says as a fact, so why post ***** that this guy says?!?!?!? He is NOT a credible source.

i can only say to the above statement: LAWL

Why aren't you pretending to be him any more?
You must still be pretty ticked the way Mr. Common Sense proves you wrong with facts rather than a lot of rants and cursing. You are a disgrace to PS3 fans and even they are sick of you.
Either way, your rants are falling on deaf ears.

The PS3 will probably lose in the U.S. and Japan, but it will win in Europe.
The Wii will probably win in Japan, but if it doesn't, the PS3 will win, and it will lose in the U.S. and Europe.
The 360 will probably win in the U.S., but lose in everything else.
In each, the PS3 will take a close second, but it will probably win the overall war.
The Wii will take third place in the U.S. and Europe.

Wii: People buy it because they are cheap and don't do any research about the other consoles before they buy. The console is very kiddy, has horrible graphics and gameplay doesnt even compare the PS3's or the 360.
Xbox 360: People buy it because they want good games, and good graphics but wanna spend as little as possible. People who buy this console do their research.
PS3: People buy it because they realize that they are getting way more bang for their buck, and don't care how much it costs. The buyers of the PS3 want steller graphics, with outstanding gameplay. People who buy this console know what they are doing.

xbox 360 9.77million sales .38m Japan
5.95m US
3.44m Others
Wii 6.25million sales 2m japan
2.49m US
1.76 others
PS3 2.45million sales .84m japan
1.35m US
.61m others
So out of the 18.47 xbox 360 has sold 9.77million of them, which is about 53% of total consols sold, while ps3 has sold a measly 15%
so yes Xbox 360 is "winning"

anyway, as someone up there has said games get bigger and bigger, there's no denying it... developers will be happy to get their hands on the storage space of bluray, why wouldn't they? bluray: it's just like dvd but has more space... duh...
x360 has a massive foot in the door, with somehting like 10 million consoles sold it's definitely no failure, but now that it's primary competition is out in all territories then the real race is on... ok fine ps3 interest is at a high due to it's lauch (was that figure about 600k sold in europe the truth?!) and that will slow a bit, but all sony need to do to hit home with the ps3 is release some good games: a wipeout title would kick ass, gta4 (despite being multiplatform) will do a lot for ps3, others... not sure which... but some great games will make it a must-have.
yeah asia is proving a tough nut to crack for ms, i think the problem is that those guys over there don't like ms, it's quite simple really... and ms aren't doing anything to win them over, so they're not buying x360.
analysts all say different things, don't believe any of them, not the ones who say x360 will win, not the ones who say ps3 will win, what do they really know? how many of them are actually reading sites like this and really care about videogames?
do you think this analyst knows about dmc4 ? do you think he knows about littlebigplanet ? or even about the cell? he doesn't, he's an idiot.
you and i know more than him, so let's make our own decisions.
i leave it up to you guys to argue some more.

The cell is great as a floding processor but noone can write good code for games to actually utilize it. Fanboys here are only complaining because they realize the mistake they made in buying that overpriced piece of *****e

When in stores the average person finds it hard to see the difference between an HDMI dvd9 player and a HD player so they never part with their cash for One, when they can have all the benefits above for a 10th of the price.
Europe the 360 will win, here we all owned a PS2 but now its all 360s and its not going to change.
The 360 is selling more in the USA than the PS3 is selling in the USA and Japan combined.
The 360 sells more then the whole amount of PS3s sold in Europe and Australia every Two weeks in the USA alone.
360 has won
The Wii will be a close second
The PS3 will remain static especially once the release hype is over by next week in Europe.

... The first post that had a good point was about Game size
... The sencond was just sales figures
... The Third was from "comdey" starting with "i wonder if sony, ms and nintendo see it as a war?"
Game size blueray will help ... But you can allways use more then one DVD(kinda anoyin tho)
The sale figures... Yes XBOX is winning BUT don't forget it has been out alot longer then other other 2 systems.
Devs. havn't beenable to use the full power of the Cell yet, as where the xbox is using almost all of its power.
For the graphics... The PS3 and Xbox are going to be almost the same. The PS3 has HD for games which will help them for that.
Now as "COMEDY" said you half to decided for yourself, And it alldepends on what you want your system for, if you just want to play games and you don't care much for linux or curing cancer(Folding@ home) or watching HD without updating your system or having a FREE online network then yea the Xbox is for you! ... but if you know anything you know that sony will end up the "winner" ...
FLAME ON!

Maybe MS is winning for now but starting early will cost you to be left behind technologically wise.
Ohh and Mr common Microsoft sense I am not posting using a fake alias...no need to, just like what I said to Lurker you do your think and i ll do mine, but I do like it when you prove that you are....thinking about me!
XBOX fans dont hate me Iam just stating facts here. Feel free to suggest otherwise...

PS3's are just sitting on the Shelf here, collecting Dust. I've yet to find one shop where they've actually sold out.
I owned a ps2, and considered a PS3, but like many others, Sony's bullcrap of a Launch put me off, and so instead of opening a PS3 at Christmas, I whipped open a 360 with Gears Of War and COD3.
Sure. Flame me, but there are many others out there who done the exact same thing. Sony have abused Europe on this Launch, relying on the success of the ps2 to own throughout the Holiday season, keeping Avid fans with their empty Christmas stockings drooling over the PS3's March release.
There's not a chance in hell Sony will own Europe for a long time, not until all its downfalls are ironed out. Which is exactly what MS are doing, ironing out the mishaps. I own the premium, I'm not going to bother with the Elite just for HDMI. I'll upgrade to the 120gb, sorted.
And to the guy who said the 360 is using all its power.
Erm.
How the hell could you know that? If the history of gaming is anything to go by, when have you ever seen a console's 'Peak' arrive at just one year, maybe one and a half years, in?
Sorry man, but you're way wrong there, I look forward to Capcom's upcoming titles, Mistwalker's upcoming RPGs (which may appeal to Japan, not necessarily to the extent of domination of the market, however)
I'm no fanboy, I still love my PS2. But please... -_-' sony fanbosy and ms fanboys... ack. Take a step back once in a while.

Oh no, PFT, I wouldn't want 50GB of disc space for a game. This dude's a hack.
