WMS: Next-gen consoles break 3 million mark in December |
Ó
As we reach the middle of January, analysts are busy tallying and talking about their next-gen consoles December sales data and estimates. Wedbush Morgan Securities is now saying that next-gen consoles sales may have broken the 3 million mark as they are speculating that 1.3 million Wii hardware units, 600,000 PS3s, and 1.2 million Xbox 360s were sold last December. This estimate now leads to a US$927.5 million in sales contribution from gaming platforms such as the next-gen consoles, the PSP, and NDS. It also represents a 183% or $600 million year-over-year growth. Now that's a whole lotta dough going around in the biz!
On the software sales side of things, WMS mentioned that December U.S. retail software sales should be up by 15% year on year. The sales growth for softwares isn't stopping there as they are also saying that there would be a 25% monthly software sales in January and February of this year. On the other hand, WMS expects that current generation software sales is experiencing a year-over-year decrease of 28% or $361 million.
