Will Wright - Image 1It's final. Will Wright, creator of The Sims franchise, is leaving Electronic Arts. This was confirmed on Wednesday by Mr. Wright himself, leaving a heavy shadow hanging low over EA's front lawn.

It's been a long and fruitful 12 years for the partnership of the legendary video game designer and publishing company, but his departure from EA certainly does not mean that he's done creating his games.

Said Lucy Bradshaw, general manager of Maxis (an EA subsidiary, which was co-founded by Will Wright himself), "I think Will will continue in the games space. It's something that's very natural to him... I think what gamers might see is other directions Will might take on as well."

Will Wright has announced that he will instead now focus his efforts on the Stupid Fun Club, an entertainment company that he also founded back in 2001. The good thing is that although he's focusing on his own now is that EA basically still has the right to first refusal on any projects coming from Stupid Fun Club. Meaning, they'll still get the first dibs.

We're looking forward to whatever future endeavors he'll be embarking on, especially after he told in an interview last year that he will be working on a "pretty grandiose" project after Spore.

SimCity needs to make a comeback after the poorly supported SCS, but now it really really looks like that's not gonna happen. :( At least EA does The Sims right. Lets hope they support The Sims 3 a lot better than they did SCS. I'm guessing they will because it is such a cash cow. Did I say that right?

He's not/wasn't working on the Sims 3.. I'm guessing EA owns the franchise, right? and Maxis quietly went byebye a few years ago.. I hope TS3 is really good because I have no idea who's working on it, I really hope some of Maxis is at least. I liked Spore, but it was very easy and extremely quick. I hope he designs a really cool game utilizing the tools and whatever else from the Sims/Spore!

i thought the creator of the slims

was some woman, who was going through menopause, and who was just finished writing a book

i guess calling him a geek isnt so bad now

» @ Silver Tiger

your bias towards nerds proves you are very naive.....you should know by now that nerds are the brains and backbone of the gaming industry not to mention any industry/high demanding but not back breaking work............last time i check i never seen a WWE professional wrestler develop a game/software or became governor except for MN governor Ventura who was horrible and tried to leagalize prostitution

That is completely irrational. Have you ever seen Ted Price? How about Cliffy Blezinsky? Neither of those look like nerds. What you look like has no basis on what you're capable of. I'm guessing you were just offended because you look like a nerd.

» Geeks vs. Nerds

@houaruto

Silver-Tiger said the man looks like a geek. The term geek generally means to be very specialized in one area, mainly computers.

A nerd, on the other hand, is someone who is quite intelligent, and has a broader area of expertise.

Why do you take his comment as such an insult? I'm pretty sure Will Wright probably gets this a lot. Saying he looks like a geek merely implies his mental skills far outmatch his physical appearance.

If anything I find your comment naive for believing there was such insult in being labelled a nerd or geek.

Sim City was decent at the time but everything else since has been garbage. The Sims? Crap.. Spore? Massively overhyped crap crippled by awful DRM...

All I did was stating the obvious....

Whether he's the most intelligent person on this world or not..

This man still looks like a geek. I've never ever seen such HUGE glasses.

The Sims was basically the bridge to having modern girl gamers.

O well, Still I played some SIMS games, (Never bought any of them lol) and Spore was fun, but after Playing it, save data was deleted, and I had to start again?! No thanks I'll pass, I never bought the game, I still have it but its boring now.... I guess Sims Seems to be a never meant to be Main Hardcore Game... Play it, get hell out of bored and return it to the store or sell it to some sucker lol

Life's already boring, Why would we want to play a game mimicking "Life"? 0_o'?

the only game (from Sims) that I really enjoyed was Sims: Urbs, though I never finished, cuz I got bored after playing long time...

Anyways Good Bye Will, We hope you make more money that you ever did with Sims, empty pockets(not mine Xp)
