WiiWantCricket wants you to want Cricket

While we are happy that WiiWantCricket is calling for the creation of a Cricket game for the Wii, we are infinitely glad that they are NOT calling for the creation of a Brockian Ultra-Cricket. We feel that the inherent violence in Douglas Adams' fictional sport ("Hitchhiker" fans, you know this!) might increase the number of wiimote related accidents.

Admittedly though, Brockian Ultra-Cricket is slightly more action packed than regular Cricket (which in turn, while slower, makes a lot more sense).

Anyhoo, the WiiWantCricket movement started out on a thread on the Aussie-Nintendo.com forums. A forum member going by the name of CronoLink posted that he's managed to get in contact with Electronic Arts way back in December 2006, and he was able to suggest to them a Cricket game for the Wii. Here's EA's response:

I totally agree with your suggestions. With the Wii just coming out less then a month ago, has opened up many possibility's as to what we can do with games, and what games we can bring back. I thank you for your time and suggestions.

Of course to get anything done, what the movement needs is support. If you'd rather not try Brockian Ultra-Cricket for fear of your own safety, and you want to see a Cricket game for the Wii, you can join the regular Cricketer sentiment and visit WiiWantCricket's site. You can head to it via our read link below.

cricket game for the wii? uh no. regular cricket is just boring. I smack a ball and run back and forth as many times as i can. at least in baseball you have to rely on another batter to hit ya home. the whole not technically smacking the ***** out of the ball is stupid. basically your blocking 3 sticks right? i dont know all the rules but ive watched at a indian restuarant and it was boring.

Every time I play baseball on the Wii I think - if only it was a cricket game.

haha baseball a sport? cricket is a real game with tactics and skill, trying to stay in and keep scoring instead of your 15 seconds of fame in baseball. american sports are all about having 1 chance, impossible to apply real tactics. but yeah, a cricket game on the wii would be so awesome :D

# And here come the 1billion+ South Asian supporters...aliasneo 2007-01-29 20:39
I'm of South Asian descent and even though I am not a cricket fan, I would love to see this game get developed. My dad along with my endless supply of uncles would get instant orgasms along with a few heart attacks with their curry clogged arteries because of joy for seeing a virtual cricket game like this. If this game does go through, I can guarantee you that there will be an instant sales increase and high demand for the Wii in South Asian countries.

Although I'd love a cricket game, at the moment I'm too depressed about getting beat by the Aussies EVERY TIME to be too concerned. Man, English cricket has died completely...

A well done cricket game would be so much fun, I could see it being highly addictive too. If not can we at least have that cricket game which was on the SNES brought to VC? I lost many an afternoon to that game.

I personally hate watching cricket. But I hate watching almost any sport. It's fun to play, though.

Same opinion as you, only thing that the 1 billion south asian supporters, is that most of them are too poor to afford wii's in India.
