Wii's Internet capability criticized by Christian group

Internet on the Nintendo Wii - Image 1Not exactly Christian in every aspect, but the people known as Ethur are the guys behind the site www.ThePornTalk.com, which is a site aimed at educating parents on how to "brief" their children about the threats of Internet pornography.

Today, they are preparing to pick on the Nintendo Wii's questionable Internet capabilities because of its "family friendly" image and ever increasing popularity, especially among kids.

But let's get one thing straight: this has often been referred to before - pornography, consoles and the Internet. The fact that most consoles can now access the Internet from your living room is an unavoidable reality.

Even television will soon be an Internet-driven revolution, thanks to digital television and streaming TV. So perhaps the group's idea to spill the Wii's "dirty little secret" isn't groundbreaking to the Internet-aware family.

Claiming that parents only enumerate the computer as the only way to get pornographic content on the Internet is a pretty shallow judgement of Information Age families out there. You can access questionable sites in just about every other Internet-enabled device, including competing consoles.

In that regard, parental control is an issue addressed by each family for their own children's safety. You have been warned.

» You know what?

Everyone is using video game consoles as a babysister and they want it to do everything and protect them from everything. Its stupid. If you don't want your child looking at porno that check up on them. And if they watch porno in the living room and does other stuff.... you may have something else to worry about...

if your kid is watching internet porn on your tv and you can't notice it, you should rethink your parenting

that's why wii is so parent-friendly to lock stuff out. kids can't even download the browser without permissions allowing them.

I think it's a just complaint, but there's nothing anyone can do about it. So you just have to be smart and watch your kids. And BTW, if you let your kid have his/her own computer when they're 8 years old, there's no way you can complain about this.
