Wiimote as VoIP?

WiimoteIt has been two weeks now since E3 showered us with nice surprises from Nintendo's next-gen console. But Nintendo still has more tricks up their sleeves regarding the Wii.

Rumor has it that aside from the presence of a speaker, the Wiimote's ability to be used as a VoIP phone is also one of the things that makes it revolutionary. If it is true that the Wiimote will include a microphone and will have the ability to store a user phonebook/address book, then this makes the controversial controller an ideal and straightforward VoIP phone. If the things crawling in the grapevine are to be believed, then the Wiimote can also be used to make video calls...although how a camera will come to play has not been clarified.

Another "breaking news": Wiichannel.com has just been added to the list of Nintendo-owned domains. Does this mean we'll soon see a Wii-dedicated interactive channel to carry animations, games, game trailers, and other AV content?

Since all are not yet confirmed, all we can do is just wait until we get official word from Nintendo. Ooh, the suspense is killing me (and, I bet, you as well).

One word: Singstar

You could play a karaoke style game with the microphone like wiimote in your hand. You don't have to talk to your wiimote while waving it around, there are some types of games that would work perfectly without. Nevertheless, you could still make use of the nunchuck to roam around or perform other tasks if the game at hand.

This is Nintendo

Nintendo is not the kind of company that puts a microphone on one thing, but not another thing. Expect the microphone to be there.

Sweet

Sounds really cool. It could be used in chatrooms between games. And you don't have to be waving it around and talking at the same time. Maybe things like in FPS games, you can bring it up and press a button like a walkie-talkie and communicate with other team members all over the world. That would be SO awesome. You and your friends exploring a village and you pull up your Wiimote, hold a button and say "I'm going in, cover me. Over" or something like, then hearing your friends saying "Roger!" through your speaker before kicking down a door and storming the house.
