WiiLiWe came across certain reports that the highly anticipated WiiLi project is currently in jeopardy. Apparently, some members of the development team have been taking the money donated for the project and - what else? - keeping it for themselves.

Now, we have no way of confirming this but we can string all the details we have for you so as you could draw your own conclusions about this matter. According to sources, these reports and complaints are coming from the supporters of the project themselves. The reports added that the forum section of WiiLi's wiki page is swarming with flames and sharp words. Unfortunately, the forum section is currently down. Hmm...

The only active link is the main page which is not looking suspicious at all. But from the last time we've visited them, certain matters had come up. For one thing, these are examples of the development team's message to their supporters:

We are selling links from our forums to raise funds for a new dedicated server. If interested please pm tuxido on the forums with an offer. The links will be displayed on every post where the amazon banner is now.

Hello Digg and Slashdot! You are one of the reasons that we are moving to a dedicated server. Please chip in with a Paypal donation, and next time you visit, our server won't melt.

Any QJ reader that is related or familiar with the WiiLi project could help shed some light on this matter. Please feel free to discuss in the comment's section about WiiLi and what's the real score. Lastly, the dev team will be accepting donations until  December 21. Their current account stands at US$ 618.

idiots....

people complaining about this issue are IDIOTS!!! If you donate money to somebody for whatever cause, they can use that money for whatever they please! Donations do NOT equal a purchase, remember that.

Agreed

While I agree with you, people that donated were under the impression the money was to go for a specific purpose. If you ask for donations for a specific purpose, and then don't use it for that, some will call it stealing. And if enough are outraged, you can kiss your project goodbye. Even if you want to continue it for free, you'll be branded thieves and cons, and nobody will take you seriously. In the end, you should only donate AFTER you are happy with the project, not before. You'll always be disappointed, otherwise.

noobs

I SAID IT BEFORE AND ILL SAY IT AGAIN. THIS PROJECT WILL NOT HAPPEN. It's founded by a bunch of inexperienced console hackers with big dreams. Some kids that think just because they can program for windows, they can get around nintendo's 15 walls of security and program a 'live linux cd' with no mods for the Wii. WONTHAPPEN.

as

the wii probably has a lot of of the same weaknesses the cube did, given it can boot cube swap disks. That in mind, don't completely disregard a software hack or even an exploit - somtehing in order to boot unsigned code.

You are wrong

Why not? Paying is not the only way to support. Your knowledge and general praise if we make a breakthrough should be enough support for anyone interested in hacking the Wii just for the sake of being able to do it.

OMG! SITE IS DOWN!

Yep

Yes, wiili is a scam. There are some honest people involved, but the main owner of the website (Tuxido) has gone missing with over $500 in donations. Nobody has been able to contact him, and the website has been down for 4 days now. It's unfortunate that they were able to pull off this scam and decieve people, but people need to understand that not everyone on the internet is what they claim to be...
