Console mod site Xtremtuner has revealed a nifty little mod that will help Wii owners control the temperature of their consoles. The mod is called WiiControl. It's an external user interface that kicks in to activate the Nintendo Wii video game console's fan when the console hits a certain temperature. It's quite useful in preventing overheating while the Wii is in standby mode.

There's also an "acoustic" (we're guessing audible) signal that will let users know if there's a danger of overheating due to a defective fan, a bad connection, or some other reason. WiiControl also has an optional feature that will let user disable the modchip. Check out the images and the vid below for a closer look at it.

i dont believe the problem is with the heatskink or overheating while playing a game. if im not mistaken the problem is that while wii connect 24 is on and the wii is in standby mode the cpu is still running but the fan on the wii is not which in some cases causes the system to over heat and ruin the internal components. this just kicks the fan in while in standby so this wont happen. i know when mines in standby it gets a little warm and it was enough to make me concerned so i just hold the power button in when i dont want connect 24 to be running and it shuts the system off instead of putting it in standby. no problems with my wii at all.
