Sega logo - Image 1While casual titles are flooding the family-friendly Nintendo Wii, Sega of America president Simon Jeffery believes the hardcore will someday find themselves at home with the motion-sensing console.

Jeffery is aware that publishers still look at the Wii as a machine for the wholesome audience, he foresees a future in which hardcore gamers will favor Nintendo's white hot system.

Sega's head honcho explained:

If you think about Condemned for instance, in hindsight Condemned would be a great game to play with the Wii remote. [The game] is all about melee combat and brute force, and using the [motion controls] to [attack] would be awesome.

However, Jeffery clarified that the reason why Condemned missed the opportunity to be brutal on the Wii is because it was designed to be "a very high-end audio-visual experience." He said, "it could have translated very well."

Furthermore, Jeffery mentioned that Resident Evil is proof of successful hardcore games on Nintendo platforms. "The Wii isn't just about Wii Tennis and Mario & Sonic; it's about so much more."

With that said, Jeffery believes "Sega is in a good position to look at the Wii market because we've got this great relationship with Nintendo and some proven success on the Wii."

» What a joke

How is the wii supposed to become hardcore when it has gimmicky controls? Nintendo has never been hardcore and never will be.

» I grew up with Nintendo.

I am a Nintendo fan. I have all of Nintendo's consoles, save for the virtual boy.

The Wii is a gimmicky Gamecube add-on.

Dude...We don't know what the deal is going to be years down the road, so try keeping your minds open.

You guys all complain about the Wii being "gimmicky" and "casual", yet you want to hate on publishers that want to put a focus on "core" games?

I have ALL Nintendo's consoles except the Wii. It's not a hardcore system and will never be without industry standard features like HD graphics, decent online, 5.1 digital audio, etc.

They added a new controller and a few frills to a Gamecube with a next gen label.

HAHAHA!!! Mr. Nonsense is hilarious:

"It's not a hardcore system and will never be without industry standard features like HD graphics, decent online, 5.1 digital audio, etc."

You mean like how the 360 is a LAST GEN console by having HD as upscaling only, NO HD AUDIO, DVD9 and ONLY 5.1 audio?

Yeah, the Wii is Last Gen, so it the 360. What's your point?
