WavebirdThose of you who are still a little skeptical about how well the Wiimote will work with some of your favorite franchises can breathe a little easier today. The fine folks at NintenDojo have put the question to Nintendo and the answer is music to our ears. Nintendo has confirmed that your standard GameCube controller (as well as the wireless WaveBird) will indeed work with the Wii using GameCube controller ports located on the top of the Wii. But will it work with the games? That's not so cut and dry.

Your favorite GameCube controllers will work with all GameCube games being played on the Wii, but only select Wii games will support these classic controllers, with Nintendo's first-party titles at the top of the compatibility list. This may ease concerns that have been raised by Super Smash Bros. Brawl fans regarding difficulty getting the next-gen incarnation of SSBB to conform to the Wii's unique controller system. While nothing has been confirmed, SSBB may benefit from GameCube controller compatibility.

There is still no word on whether these classic controllers will be compatible with Virtual Console titles, but we'll bring the latest as soon as more information is released.

» Did you guys go back in time?

What the hell, this has been known since E3 this year or before. What's with the lack of real good news?

» Wth, this HAS been confirmed.

It was already confirmed that Gamecube games and Super Smash Brothers Brawl would be played with the Gamecube controller. Brawl can ONLY be played by the Gamecube controller if I recall correctly.

Actually, the way I remember it was that Brawl was supposed to be played using the virtual console controller. Even though I loved SSBM on the GC controller, I hope that most places opt to set up with the VC controller over the GC one.

Why? Because although the GC controller is perfect for first party titles, third party games and especially ones that span all three consoles, tend to not play as easily on the GC controller with the awkward controller setup. ESPECIALLY fighting games...more specifically, 2-D ones.

There's really no difference between the two, they can be used interchangably with the Wii.

There is a big difference. GC has one analog stick, VC controller has two. GC has a giant 'A' button and bean shaped X, and Y buttons. A tiny B button, and an odly placed Z button with a C stick. It has a tiny D-pad as well and the whole controller conforms to your hands.

The VC controller has four buttons all the same size, regular trigger buttons and Z button, bigger D-pad, and dual analog sticks. There is a big difference.
