Wii to Launch October 1st in US? [Update - Another Rumor] |

Now, this may just be a coincidence, but I'm starting to believe all these Wii rumors going around as we get more of them. This newest rumor comes in the form of a picture that I saw over at Nintendo's Wii site. After navigating through the Wii site to see if anything would relate to an October 2nd (10/2/06) release date, I stumbled upon this picture that is shown to the left. Now, some of you have probably already noticed it when reading the article title and looking straight at the picture. However, for those who need some explaining - The woman pictured in the middle of the group is wearing a shirt that displays - US 101. Now, we are unsure if the entire shirt just says this or if the jacket is covering up something else. This US 101 translates into US October 1st (10 1). Now, after seeing this picture (under WarioWare of Wii Software), I just couldn't forget about the October 2nd release date rumor that was supported by a decrypted version of Nintendo's Press Release and a Wii game's release date from Walmart.

Well, I have all over the Wii news again, saying to myself that there must be more to it, there must be more information out there! So, I returned and went through all of our Wii articles, and then it hit me! I wasn't a fan of the way we originally portrayed the "decryption" of the Nintendo Press Release, so I went back and reviewed it myself.
After looking over it several times, I found that Final Fantasy V was oddly capitalized (all letters in it), so I knew that had to be part of the hint. So, I went over it again, looking at the press release and other GBA titles mentioned. I found nothing. So, I just started to work with the name (Final Fantasy V) and Wii. Then, it hit me - a W is made by forming two "U"s or two "V"s. So, I formed Wii using two "V"s and came with this - V V ii. Then, I realized the original reasoning and how it turned out to be 10/2 (October 2nd). In roman numerals, a V represents 5 and an I represents 1. So - V + V = 10, and i + i = 2 (result = 10/2)!. Now, this is very, very creepy. Take this as you will, but I was very proud of myself for finding this!

Ubisoft has said that RED STEEL is coming out in November. So why would it be an October release date when it is supposed to be a launch title...

The problem is that 101 is not an unusual number. It could be just a coincidence. And of course Aaron is right, games come out on Tuesdays, not Sundays. But then again, it may be Nintendo sending us a clue. I guess will find out.
I'm disappointed with you Frozen for not linking to a source. Because I recall in the forums this was posted in the forums before here.
There also appears to be a calendar in the actual gameplay on the wall. And the date says, yep, you guessed it, 1!

I've just been on a spree for finding Wii Rumors (heck, even creating them myself), and went to Nintendo's Wii site, scouried it like hell - saw the image and such and it hit me. I also checked the hex to make sure there were no hidden messeges in there either (there were none that I could find). I'll be sending a copy of this to you in your PM box just in case you do not read this - I honestly did not see your thread, heck I didn't know anyone else knew about this!
Thats just too much of a coincidence. Nintendo probably thought that maybe someone smart would pick up on it and guess what you did. Good job. I'm hoping that this is real and that Nintendo really has just been toying with us this entire time.
i think the release date is 10/2 with all the clues and rumors it might really be 10/2!!!

Haha, nice effort, but did you read back what you typed? I could've said that the Wii will launch Oct 2 on the day they announced the name change => Wii=WII=VVII=10+2=Oct 2nd.
Why doesn't QJ start a sweeps for picking Wii launch day, I'm tipping Nov 4th in US
in relation to aarons comments about games only releaseing on tuesday is not true in fact nintendo is releasing almost all of its Q4 games on a monday. so there is a possibility it may realease on a sunday.

You're trying WAY too hard. First off, US 101 is a California highway (hense the shield-shape), I drive on it everyday. I have no idea why that girl would be wearing that shirt but anyway. I've seen shirts like that for other highways. I thought the 1st part of your little 'discovery' was stupid but the 2nd borders on retarded. Drop the conspiracy theories. Nintendo will announce the price and release date this September. It will obviously ship between mid to late September at the earliest and early to mid December at the latest. If I had to guess I would say it'd sell for $200 and be in stores around the middle or end of November probably on a Tuesday. Not much longer regardless.

In Japan "Final Fantasy" is typically written in all caps. It's not to weird to occasionally see it written that way in American press releases and other official documentation.

He Didnt Say VV = 10. He Said V+V = 10 Which IS Correct. And I must say it is rather... suspicious. Why would Nintendo pick such a stupid name. It has more meaning than we think. and I think V V i i makes perfect sense. Wii will change the way we think of gaming. October 2nd will change the way we think of gaming.

As far as the October 1st release being a Sunday - I too do not believe that it will be released at that point in time either
As far as the Wii = V V i i rumor and one of the comments - Yes, everyone knows X = 10, but two 5's (V) added together equal 10 ;) There are several arguements we can use with it, but I'm still sticking with the October 2nd as the best rumored released date.
As far as Final Fantasy being capitalized in the press released - I'm aware that they do that in Japan (all the Final Fantasy game's boxes have it like so in Japan, and US as well) - but for Nintendo to use the JP way of spelling it in a US press release left me at an odd position so I thought it would be significant. It is actually used back and forth in the US, so using the capital version over the standard lowercase as found in press released struck me.
However - Personally I am still just taking this with a grain of salt, it's up to you personally to decide what you think, we aren't telling you that this is true or that you must believe it.

I do expect that the Wii will be out before the PS3 and the 101 could be a big hint, but the whole Wii=V V ii=10/2/06 is ludicrous and pompous. First of all, I don't think Nintendo would name their system for the sole reason of it being a coded message. Second, if it were a coded message saying when the release date is, why in the heck would Nintendo name the system just for the US release. Worldwide I can see, but just for the US is really unrealistic. I know rabid fanboys can't wait to sink their teeth in to the new slimline Game Cube and Nintendo is toying with all of us by not giving a release date and keeping the masses in the unknown.
Justin, I think it's even more important to point out that highway 101 is the HOLLYWOOD freeway. Anyone knowledgeable with Japanese culture knows the idealization of Hollywood and western culture. So this is more the case of a young japanese girl trying to look hip (or nintendo marketing thinking this is how fashionable girls dress) than a hidden secret message.

To say that they would release after ps3 is just stupid and around black friday the day after thanksgiving is more stupid. dude everyone has theories and these ones are pretty good. She just so happens to be wearing a 101 shirt, ok maybe but maybe not. The fact that a game is being released every monday except oct. 2nd, nov. 20th, 27th is more hinting to it coming out earlier than later. Nov. 20th is after the ps3 so thats a no go. Nov. 27th is black friday so that's a no go. Which leaves us with oct. 2nd. Now of course it doesn't have to be on the 2nd just earlier than the ps3. Just think is it easier to buy a ps3($600) then the WII($250 est.), or easier to buy the WII($250 est.) then the ps3($600). For me it would be the latter. And I think for the parents who buyinhg the games for there kids , iwould think the latter also.

Maybe Nintendo has the huevos to go neck and neck with Sony; they obviously had them to come up with the total revolution that is the Wii. It created way more buzz than the 360 and PS3 combined at E3 proving that it's all about the games and how they're played. But that's just the sidenote. Fact of the matter is, Nintendo isn't affraid of toe-to-toeing with the big boys. I'm sticking to my release window of between Sept. and Dec. (as if it isn't obvious). Should pigs fly on Nov. 17th as the Wii release date. Sony would get a run for their money believe me. I still say $200 in November, a week or two after the PS3. I never said the Wii would launch after the PS3 exclusively. Oh and that little theory is still ridiculous. I agree with #34; my thoughts exactly. Mcnast, slap Mr. Outlast for me.

Also, Nintendo did not even know of a release date when they showed that video and picture. It was at E3, and the Wii sensor bar was holding back the developement process as we reported on earlier - so they couldn't even estimate

i was seeing a trailer of ff3 and i notice the jaoanese have the date backwards 2006/24/08 that stand for augst/24/2006 so how about you forget about hollywod highway mere coincidence and flip the numbers instead 10/11/2006(oct/11/06) seeing on the pic above to 2006/11/10(november/10/06) JUST THINK ABOUT IT Cmon.
