Wii To Launch Late September or October?

wiiWhile Sports Illustrated for Kids announced the Wii's launch on November 6, CNN columnist Chris Morris, citing insider buzz, says it could be as available as early as late September. While Nintendo, unlike SI for Kids, has not made any formal launch date announcements for the Wii, it was generally expected to hit retail around the PS3's debut on November 17.

The company could now be manufacturing final retail units of the Wii, according to a June 21st analyst's note from P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research, saying "October is a reasonable timeframe." Early manufacturing will help Nintendo meet consumer demand since new consoles sell out fast. In contrast, Sony has yet to begin final manufacturing of its PS3. Nintendo continues to downplay any suggested dates.

Meanwhile, the pricing for the Wii remains a mystery. Industry analysts place it between $199 or $249, cheaper than both the PS3, and the current Xbox 360 price.

I hope we're not getting it later again here in England. Can't stand when that happens.

im sorry to upset all the fanboys, but this console really does make me laugh. its a console for little kiddies. just look at it!!! look at the sodding games!!! imagine bringing a girl home or family members and sayin "oh, thats my Wii. fancy a game of super mario bros.??"

now i do like nintendo, i had a n64 n loved playing goldeneye and mario kart (although i was 12 years old when that came out) but i really wished nintendo went down a different route, instead of a posh eye toy like console. Its like something you find on a market stall, and it kills me to say all this.

ill probably buy one anyway lol, itll look good next to a ps3 and hdtv

...but how is this in any way relating to these news? Please keep your completely unrelated thoughts to yourself. Yes there will be a fancy new Super Mario Bros. game - but along about 50 other titles, and without a camera I fail to see the resemblence of a eye toy like console. Anyway...

I live in Europe too and hope that there is no huge delay between the releases. I doubt a world-wide release but Nintendo more than once stated that they plan to release the console within only a few weeks (hopefully 2 weeks max) all over the world. In the end I think Europe will get it's release October latest.

Good news, Daz. You get to enjoy the PS3 and Xbox360, with their lack of kiddie games and mature hoe-beating antics!

You're right, Wii will be the biggest console for the under 14yo kiddies. But also at the same time, it will be the biggest console for those 20+.

The only age group that Nintendo will struggle with is the 14-19 year olds. This is due to the superficial, self conscience nature of teenagers. I know, I was once your age too

I am glad to here that you will buy a Wii aswell. Once again Nintendo's marketing ploy chalks up another victory. It'll be interesting to find out which system you purchase more games for, which system gets the most amount of playtime and, most importantly, which console you have the most fun with.

Wii to launch late September? Sounds great, but I don't believe it. We would of heard more of the launch schematics if that were the case. November still looks promising though.

» PS3 will come out too late...

as long as sony has the heat issue of their Cell chips in 90nm the console isnt going to be finally manufacturing...

i still think sony isnt able to build the PS3 atm

and so the 17th of november is a date they cannot get for selling the console. (too early)

they have to go down to 65nm, to produce the cell for 3,2ghz without overheating issues (this needs more time)

» So cool

Now tell us more about Resident Evil Wii and Disaster Day of Crisis! Also Project Hammer looks good. Hey those are all mature games... Hey two of them are being published by Nintendo! Wait a sec! People of all ages enjoy Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Can it be? Can Nintendo be branching out? Could they make games that are safe for kids at a Teen rating or lower that can be enjoyed by mature gamers? I guess not. Brain Age is for adults but it's rated E and it's only a multimillion selling franchise that hardly a year old. I'm only 19 and got my big sis and her husband to play WairoWare for hours on the 4th. Hey my mom played it too. Also she has a DS and likes what she has heard and seen about the Wii. Also the New Super Mario Bros has already sold over 3 million in just Japan and the US... Wonder what the European sells will be like...

Lets hope it comes out soon!

Release date prediction is 10.10.06 @ $250. Extra controllers $30 and games $40-50 each. It will happen, oh yes, it will happen. I've been saying this for months so articles like this are really not news...
