With both Sony and Microsoft making their respective price cuts and marketing efforts, the Wii has been left stagnating on its price point, making it less competitive in the market. With declining sales and no plans of shedding a few pounds off the price tag, Michael Pachter predicts that things will not get any better for the Wii in September.

"With the core PS3 and Xbox 360 models priced only US$ 50 higher than the Wii, we expect year-over-year sales of Wii hardware to continue their annual declines until the company either changes its bundle or lowers price," said Pachter. The Wii may still be cheaper, but the fifty-buck difference might spell more trouble for Nintendo, keeping in mind that both Sony and Microsoft are also out to challenge the motion-control market.

"Wii unit sales are 50 per cent below last year%u2019s level over the last five months, and we think that September sales will repeat the pattern," Pachter added.

It's finally happened

This is GREAT! Nintendo's management seriously is retarded. Years of doing next to nothing in terms of games development and instead peddling overpriced and useless accessories is FINALLY catching up to them. I guess Nintendo can kiss any chances of catching up to PS2 sales goodbye! Wii sales down, DSi sales low, PS3 sales way up! Now what can Nintendo boast about?

ya

very true, and also, only 50% less from last year? that would still be huge sales imo, comparing to ps3 and 360 sales

Isn't it Ironic

Th@ the wii was the top-dog of sales and is now the underdog, while the PS3 went from underdog, to top-dog??? X-Box is still in between, headed nowhere?

Isn't it obvious?

Their new heart beat monitor of course!!! It will revolutionize gaming.

I won't pretend....

to try to shrug off the price point of the Wii now. Only being 50 more to get a PS3 or good 360, I think just about anyone would pick the two latter. I do think Nintendo should drastically reduce price. However..... maybe they can boast that pretty much anyone that wants one and some who didn't much have a Wii? Or that the DS and Wii are still selling well, even though people like you always bash on it saying lowered sales. Yeah, it's gone down... down to NORMAL levels. At least on the Wii. The DS still seems to be kicking butt. I enjoy playing both Wii and DS. If something isn't on Wii, it is probably on computer, which is why I spent money on a good computer. The DS has TONS of good games alone, more than most people can play through. That said, I did finally pick up a PS3 slim (first 40Gig was stolen) so that I could play Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles, among others.
