Wii sales to hit 100 million in 2012 |
Ó
It doesn't take an industry analyst to tell you that the Nintendo Wii is today's hottest console. Every gamer and their mothers know about it, and units are flying off store shelves like few other products today. The question on everyone's mind now is clearly this: Can Nintendo keep the momentum up in the years to come? While some are skeptical, Japanese market analyst Yuta Sakurai of Nomura Securities thinks otherwise.
Sakurai is convinced that by the year 2012, Nintendo would have sold 100 million Wii units across the world. Credit that to the market-expanding innovations that Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata and his team implemented.
"Around 80 per cent of Wii consoles are in family living rooms," says Sakurai. "The company has managed to embed the system in people's lifestyles."
The Nomura Securities analyst concludes that the key for Nintendo to preserve its momentum is for them to keep on dishing out innovations that will keep their machine's novelty factor high. So far, they've been able to do that with the introduction of exercise software Wii Fit and its Balance Board accessory. Another peripheral, the Wii Wheel, is set to arrive with this year's launch of Mario Kart Wii.

It'd be impossible for it to keep going at the rate it is doing now for its whole life span, and that's what this relies on.
It can't stay out of stock forever, soon it should stabilise and we'll finally get to see what it'll have as steady figures, but until then, keep they need to keep to the360 and PS3 for stuff like this since they actually have steady sale figures to work on, not sell out figures.

Wii fit, the wii wheel, and the zapper aren't innovations. More like gimmicky junk, they will not add life to this short life system. The wii is all about novelty really, depending on quick thrills rather than having any lasting value as a gaming system.
tell me what are you trying to accomplish. instead of being stupid
I'm letting people know if they really want a Wii they should just wait 6 months until Nintendo catches up with demand and you can find them for $150 in the clearance bin.
i knew you were stupid you think your opinion going sway the people not to buy the wii boy i'm going to have too start dumbing down my words so you can understand them better
The Wii won't hit 100 million, maybe 80 million before the Wii is gone. And i use maybe very lightly. The reason why Both PS systems even got up to a million was cause of a massive library of games, fanbase. The Wii doesn't even have a good library let alone a massive one.
The 360 has a better chance of reaching 100 mill than the Wii.
Also its sad that the Console is selling well but the games lack to a point that no one even plays the system for it. I know tons of people who only play 3 games out of the whole games it has, how horrible. And after SSBB the Wii has nothing going for it. Im sensing the Wii will be dead by 2009 and 2010 Wii 2 will be out.
The PS3 well we all know PS systems past so its a no brainer. Nintendo staff and Analyst's must be thick to think this.
Wii in 2012... what a joke! LMAO
Well it will probably see the same fate as the PS2 and sell even after this gen ends i beleive that is what they are saying just you wait next gen xbox and PS3 will either copy nintendo or make new kinds of game per
peripherals is what i meant but anyways thats what i think will happen
