Wii Region-Coding Clarification |
Listed in: Wii Tags: Nintendo of America
Ó
The first thing we heard about region-coding was from Nintendo of America. The answer? No region-coding for the Wii or first party games! Then, almost as soon as we heard that, there was a report from Nintendo UK that there would be region-coding and that all games would be region-specific.Earlier today, GameSpot reported that the Wii would be region-free! Again, gamers excited about Ninty's console rejoiced. However, just like last time, it's now confirmed that the Wii will NOT be region-free and that all first-party games will be region-locked. Boo. With the Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Portable being region-free, we were hoping for the Wii to be region-free too! I wonder how Virtual Console games will work?

#10, no, I say that a console is region-free if the hardware manufacturer does not build in any region-lock. If the publisher makes it impossible to play on a different region's console, that's something the hardware manufacturer can't stop.
#11, the PSP is region-free for games. Only UMD movies are region-locked.
