Wii pre-order stories: a whole lot of fan-love

She's in line early...Getting your pre-order for the Wii is such a moving experience that it warrants having its own entry on people's web-blogs. We here at QJ can sort of understand this sentiment as Nintendo faithful have after all been waiting for the console for months now. Go Nintendo has set up one such blog that features testimonials of how their userÂ’s pre-order experiences went.

They also have an area-by-area coverage of how the pre-order lines are shaping up. It's sort of moving actually - seeing a whole lot of Nintendo fans from all over queuing up, getting to know each other, and camping out just to get that oh so wanted pre-order.

And they said gaming isn't a social thing. Anyway, here are some pics of eager Wii hungry fans:

Most testimonials from Go Nintendo mention that the fans indeed had a good time waiting. Yeah, some are a bit disappointed that even people who were there early got turned away, but they also understood that there was a whole lot of them and there is only a finite amount of stock to go around. At the end of the day they were tired and wasted, but the Wii pre-order and the company of like-minded fans was worth it.

HereÂ’s a quotable quote from one of those who were in line:

"We now had about 18-20 people waiting in line. Fox News came and filmed us for a while and asked us what was going on. Everyone of course shouted 'WII!!!!!' It was pretty funny. About 30 minutes before they opened the doors (9:30AM) there were close to 60 people waiting in line. Suddenly, the doors opened at 9:58AM. A young guy walked out and told everyone who was buying a Wii to raise their hands. Hands went up like crazy."

Even if you aren't a Nintendo fan, it's sort of moving to see a whole lot love within a community. Maybe the hippies got it right.

# I waited for 2 hours.Guest 2006-10-13 14:54
Yay!

I got my preorder on this morning. My store had 14 units for sale and I was dood number 9.

When I arrived it wasn't like when I waited for the ps3 earlier this week , for PS3 I was the only one in line for at least an hour (showed up 3hr early) and then the rest of the people showed up who were soccer moms gettin em for their spoiled brats or ebayers.

No no no, when I arrived 2 hours early for the Wii this morning I showed up to find all 8 people in line before me playing DS, drinkin mountain dew, eating chips, and having a lot of fun. It was pretty cool I must admit. Everyone was very friendly and just having a good time gaming.

Unfortuntaly I left my DS at home, not to draw attention to myself for having a Supercard Lite and every game and homebrew for free, I knew the Gamestop employees would be hating on me and sure enough they were in line too. I had a lot more respect for them seeing them wait in line on their day off and haing fun gaming with everyone else.

So there I was playing my PSP with NES on it and Streetfighter MAX from Japan and watching a movie. I felt a little out of place playing my PSP, but still felt the Nintendo love.

Now the wait is on, next month is going to rox!

Yeah I hear ya, this morning was so moving to be there, unfortunatly I was outside waiting in 30 degree weather from 4am to 10am yet i was second in line which was nice to know since the system is call based on position on the reserved line. Also to people who have reserved at Gamestop and such, contact your local gamestop becuase they told me this morning that the Wii preorder people can pick up their system at 12 midnight on saturday/sunday to get ahead of it all which I will be doing but if you people didn't hear bout it, make sure to ask.

Wii will, wii will rock my midnight!!

# Mine was quite the opposite of the PS3 experience...III AnubisX III 2006-10-13 20:04
My GameStop is in my local (thank God) so I didn't have to stand in the cold. Anyways, I didn't wanna get screwed out of a Wii like I did PS3 (I was 10th, they only had 4) so I got there at 7AM. The mallwalkers kept eyeballing me as I was the only person there til about 9am. 10 finally came and there were only 7 people in line. This surprised me because a guy came from a GameStop right across the street and said there were 20+ people satnding outside wanting to get on. Needless to say, my Wii preorder experience was fairly boring, but at least I was #1. I hope that means something when I go to pick it up. As far as midnight goes, my GameStop will start selling them to those who preordered at 12:01 AM on Nov 19th so I'll get there around 8PM.

# Wii vs PS3Guest 2006-10-13 22:29
At my local gamestop (bellingham, WA) I was in both lines for PS3 and Wii. Guess what shocked me? turnout...

Time Inline PS3 InlineWii

midnight 1.5 (1 in car) 3

4am 1.5 4

530am 2.5 5

730am 2.5 7

8am 7 10

10am 11 25ish

I figured the Wii line would be shorter with more units available. It was the opposite. They had 12 units instead of 16(PS3) and I didn't get my Wii. Looks like I will be in line on launch day. But I was #2 for PS3, so I got some love still.

All you people that preordered your Wii are going to soon realize how frivilous it was once it comes out... they'll be at least 50 Wii's per store I guarantee it. If stores like EBGames or Gamestop tell you otherwise they are LYING to you to cover their own ass... Don't sweat it, kiddies. You WILL get a Wii this season.

# Far from waste of time to infinitysendgamegunner 2006-10-14 04:38
Actually your really wont bout the whole 50 units per store, I work for target and corporate letter sent to us concerning wii units and only 15 will be avaliable to sell most of which will be claimed by employees, the same amount of units will apply to all other stores, sorry soccer mom man but not only will you not have your 50 units but you also missed out on (depending on your location of the gamestop and people) the best experience to be around people who have the same passion of you, instead you probably stayed home watchin the same ol` kiddy porn day after day.

Cheers!
