Conceptual Power Glove AdIn a conceptual ad for a Wii peripheral, Zaiten has re-invented the power glove to be cooperatively with the Wii. The power glove was first introduced during the NES years which retailed for 100$. This product took the regular NES controller and transformed it into a complicated glove. There were several buttons in which you could adjust something about the default A & B buttons, such as triggering it to be turbo. The glove even went so far as to allow free movement of the hand to control something on the screen, something of which had little success.

As many of us know, Nintendo introduced their revolutionary controller at the Tokyo Game Show last year (2005). This controller did what many controllers have failed to successfully do in past years. It added 3D motion sensing, and from the demos that were playable this year at E3 (2006), it seems to have succeeded. So, know the only problem that is presented is marketing the new intuitive controller.

Zaiten has taken it into his hands to re-invent the power glove in a Wii advertisement. He used the power glove to harness the Wii's power, the controller. In the conceptual advertisement, he has two Wii controllers on each hand and a nunchuck/thumbstick controller in his right hand. This is a very unique way to advertise the Wii with the power glove due to the fact that the power glove received little love from anyone. Hopefully Nintendo will be able to successfully advertise and market the Nintendo Wii, something of which Reggie Fils-Aime is excellent at.

» Wow..

That actually looks like a great idea. Great for boxing games. and FPS's where you can shoot with one hand, and use the other to punch at the same time

Yeah that is pretty cool!

» It can work

With what the wiimote can do it can't be to hard to make a working power-glove. I just hope it would be nothing like the last one

» Useless.

There are a few big reasons why that wouldn't work.

First off, you can see that if you bend your wrist back slightly, you cover the sensor that the front of the Wiimote. This means that the only function you are using in the Wiimote is the Gyroscopic sensors, or "tilt" control. These are the same Gyroscopic sensors in the Nunchuku controller attachment, as well.

Basically, you can accomplish the exact same thing this guy is doing by simply holding the Wiimote in one and and using the Nunchuku in the other.

This is good news for us, because this means that without any sort of add-on, you CAN use the Wiimote and Nunchuku for boxing, or an FPS with simulatneous shooting and punching.

This "glove" just more-or-less complicates things.

» Neato!

It looks like a good idea, but I wonder if they could find a way to make it less ridiculous looking. You don't need that much material on your arm to attach a Wiimote to your hand...

» hmm...

I like what #4 said, and he is right. But this ad. makes me wonder. Do you see the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 9th starting from the top left and working your way left to right, down. That is a game by the name Breakdown. (No one really knows about it, but it was like Metal Arms, a "Sleeper Hit" if you will, at least for me, I don't know the ratings it got) That is the first game I thought of when the Wiimote was shown. Why? Because of the gameplay and how...realitic it is. Not because of the story, just the way it moves and it was in 1st person the whole time (yes I know most FPS's are this way, but not so lifelike) and it looked like you were the charater. When you climbed up something you felt like you were climbing up it, even though it is just a normal controller controlling the game. When you punch one of those...I don't remeber what they are called...but whenever you would hit one of those guys it felt like you were doing it...just the way the game moved. I REALLY hope that the people that made Breakdown get a look at this ad and make a new Breakdown game, or just have a game with the same "mechanics". I would buy it!

» 3D motion

The wiimote can sense 3D motion. Red Steel even use it at one time to move the katana at a 1:1 ratio. Does that use the front sensor? Can the sensor be block that easily? If not it could work. If not move the wiimote up some so it is not blocked...

by Dacvak - 2006-07-04 17:51
» To ssj3fox...

That's not the point. The Wiimote can sense 3D motion WITHOUT the sensor on front. And so can the Nunchuku attachment! That means that you don't need two Wiimotes (or gloves) to take advantage of this. You simply need a Wiimote with the Nunchuku attachment, which is standard.

Therefore, you shouldn't get excited for the possibility of these gloves... You should get excited for the reality that the Wiimote and Nunchuku can already do what these gloves are for.

Yeah nothing a little duct tape couldn't handle.

I hope it is getting better in final version but otherwise, it is a good idea. Very cool! :)

» Little love??

LITTLE LOVE!? The PowerGlove is my all-time favorite controller. Super Glove Ball was an amazing game. It was definitely under-sold and under-marketted. The only problem with it was the price and the scars. (My first 2 knuckles have little white scars from rubbing the inside of the glove constantly. I had so much fun I refused to quit when it hurt.)

» Great Idea!

I actually love this idea and as much as I have hated nintendo in the past, they have gained my utmost respect in being so innovative. I can picture it now, me standing in front of the T.V. and punching it for hours. I can't freaking wait untill this system somes out, the possibilities with this new controller are endless.

» Hm

That's actualley hella cool. I might make my own for some games if Nintendo doesn't

» Nintendo Novelty

It looks like a Nintendo failure (sales wise) has found new life on the Wii! Sounds like something I'd get!

But one question:

Will the 'Wii glove' come with 6oz of Vaseline...? Heh.

by Anonymous Hero - 2006-07-08 18:54
» uh

Can't you just strap 2 Wiimotes on to your hands with some duct tape?

by Merlin - 2006-07-10 13:48
» Fail

Too bad the Wii's graphics won't come near to matching Fight Night's near photo-realism. Remember folks, graphics are *not* the future! Only new control interfaces are.

Hopefully you can tell I'm being sarcastic. The reality is the future is *both* graphics and controller interface. The more realistic the world looks, the easier it is to immerse yourself. The more realistically interactive the controller is, the more enjoyable an experience gaming becomes. Thus BOTH are required.

» Meh
