Wii-playing cops sent to retraining |

Remember those Polk County cops that busted a drug dealer then played
with his Wii after? Internal investigation found that out of the 16 officers present in the raid, 11 were at fault, and so they puckered up to
face the wrath of the Sheriff's Office - a wrath that left marks on
their personnel files and sent them straight into retraining. It's one thing to be caught goofing off while looking for evidence, but it's definitely something else to be playing with the drug dealer's Wii - caught on tape, no less. For that, the undercover detectives will need to complete two hours of retraining, while the supervising sergeants get four.
"We are learning from our mistakes," said sheriff's Chief of Staff Gary Hester.
"I'm absolutely convinced these folks will never do that again. I think we handled (the investigation) appropriately."
The police chief, Roger Boatner, agrees with the punishment given, saying, "It's been investigated by the sheriff's office and reviewed by the Lakeland Police Department, and we concur with the action taken against them," he said, adding that "We hope this incident doesn't overshadow all the hard work that went into the arrest."
