Wii Play Nintendo Wii - Image 1Jesse Divnich of simExchange has an interesting prediction: Nintendo's party game pack for the Wii, Wii Play, will turn out to be the top title in global lifetime sales, topping other great Nintendo Wii titles, even the highly acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy or even the much awaited Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

We're not sure if we should be surprised or not, but it should be noted that Wii Play, along with Wii Sports, dominated the Media Create Wii software sales numbers.

Divnich also mentioned that the handheld Nintendo DS may set a new record once the December tally is completed. To quote:

Confirmation of this is observed in December 2007 sales as the Nintendo Wii is expected to sell over 1.8 million units and the DS to sell over 2.9 million units. Interesting enough, the DS selling over 2.9 million units would be an industry record for consoles or portables sold in one month.

As for DS games, Nintendo's chart-topping Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is expected to come out as the highest-selling game in terms of global lifetime sales for the DS platform.

This is a load of crap

The only reason Wii Play and Wii Sports have sold many copies is because they come in bundles. Wii Sports comes bundled with the Wii so when you buy the console you have to get the game as well. Wii Play comes bundled with a Wii remote so when someone is looking for an extra remote and they see that they can get one with a game for about $10 extra obviously they're going to buy that if they haven't already.

Wrong

You know, Wii Sports is only bundled in North America as far as I know, and bundled doesn't count as sold, because it's a bonus. In Europe and Japan people have to buy Wii Sports. And since it's one of the best games lots of people do.

Wii sports is one of the best games? I don't think any Wii games are very good, but I do like Zelda and Resident Evil 4. I'm playing them on my $60 (new) Gamecube though. I don't like letting Nintendo make money off me, so I buy the old stuff they don't want to sell anymore. The Wii really isn't any better anyway.

Actually no

The Wii comes bundled with Wii Sports in Europe. The only place it doesn't come bundled is in Japan. And the only copies sold of one of the top selling Wii games came only from Japan, because bundles don't count, right?
