Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock by Activision - Image 1While some of us gamers are rocking hard and doing mad riffs in Activision's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, some Nintendo Wii owners are online complaining about the game's lack of surround sound support. Some go as far as saying the Wii version of this title doesn't even support stereo sounds, and others pointed out that Guitar Hero III's audio output is monoaural or single channel.

Many complainants voiced out at Guitar Hero's community website. Without support for Dolby Pro Logic 2, Wii rockers cry out since they are already deprived of the offline co-op mode available to Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Major disappointment also come from those with high-end surround sound setups who can't enjoy music like they expected.

Guitar Hero fans have been spreading the word enough for Activision to notice their concerns. Official word says the problem is under investigation and will be fixed, but no solid date was given so people playing GHIII on their Wii have to keep fingers crossed.

Really?

The Wii version of a popular game is by far the worst? No, I would never expect that! LOL!!! Wii can't even do Dolby Surround, which was on games since the PS1! How pathetic!!

WTF!?!?!?!?!

"lack of surround sound support." That's interesting since the Wii CAN NEVER DO surround sound. It only has TWO channels. The best it can do is stereo! I bet this all started with one person then a bunch of liars started backing him up. Even if you output the same signal on both channels you still have stereo. So how exactly are these non audio experts proving they, in fact, have a mono signal?

To answer your question...

While it may be considered "stereo" to output the sound to both channels, I believe this is called mono when there is no disticnt difference between the output on the right and left channels. It is also called mono when you only have one audio source such as your (old) television's primary speaker.

Offline co-op?

What do you mean the Wii version has no offline Co-op? There is both a co-op career and multiplayer mode, both offline... Also, the sound on mine is fine. It's not true surround sound, no, but it's really good sound.

offline co-op explained

What they mean is when the game was launched (on every console) they, for some reason, didn't include the option to play in multiplayer co-op. The only options were things like multiplayer verses, battle, etc. There was an update available for both the PS3 and the 360 that fixed that and any issues with the calibration of the wammy bar. Apparently the Wii didn't get this update.
