Alright, exactly 9:05 EST, Nintendo opened the doors to the event and started letting people in, and at 9:25, Nintendo reveals that "The worldwide debut of the Wii system happens right here in the Americas -- the same place where we debuted Nintendo DS. On November 19, it will be available at more than 25,000 points of distribution across the Americas. And with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $249.99. One price. One configuration. One color."

$250 is overpriced for an updated gamecube. I could buy a 360 for a 50 more dollars. if it was $200 then I would be more interested. nintendo just dug their own grave.

Me too. I have waited TWO AND A HALF YEARS for the Wii, ever since they announced the N5.

» $250 is a great price

Stop complaining.

» Wii

I believe that Nintendo is play this smart. By adding all of the channels to the Wii it opens a whole new side to a gaming console.

I do agree that $250 US is a bit much but it's well worth it (if you are in NA you get the Wii Sports bundle too)and you have to think that it's the launch price and that the launch prices can't but extremely cheap. Just wait a year and the Wii will be less than $200. Nintendo didn't dig their own grave.

I am disappointed that the release date for me is Nov. 19th and that you must pay for the Virtual Console games but that is just because I want it so badly. Looking at a corporate point of view it makes sense.

» $250 is great Price

I would not say $250 is overpriced. Considering they are throwing in a game (WiiSports). The game may not be as complex as others, but never the less it is a game. Xbox 360 is $400 plus $60 for a game ($460). So in reality this console is not much over $200. Consider Wii Sports an interactive training model to the WiiMote. Its about time this industry dares to do something different. Thank you Nintendo.

» Im happy

Im happy with a 250$ price tag considering it come swith a game. The Nov.19th im to happy about. A sunday? wth!!!?? Oh well 2 more months i guess. More money to save up for launch games.

» Definitely overpriced

Come on, guys. I mean, I'm excited for the system, but this is overpriced. The graphics definitely aren't a leap above current gen titles, and it's not costing them that much to make it. They're turning a rather large margin on the system itself. And to be fair, the Xbox360 came with a few free arcade games on it, which to me is the equivalent of Wii Sports. The game consists of just swinging the controller. You don't even get to move your guy around (in tennis, at least, unless I'm behind on my information). They should have marketed it at least $100 under the Core 360, as at $50 that's a much better deal. Methinks Nintendo is headed for trouble...

» Are you kidding? Overpriced?

The people whining about the price must be joking. A PSP used to cost $250, and its crap. You're *****ing about Wii Sports... its just one game and its alot more fun then Bejeweled or Helix or whatever from 360. Personally I think its underpriced. PS3:600; XBOX360:400; Wii:250!

Its quality gameplay for a reasonable price

#4 it is $200 retard, you get a game with it, thats y its $250

» too much good news = too much expectation

Nintendo had it coming. They released good news after good news after good news. Cheaper system. Intuitive gameplay. Cheaper games. Free online. Wiiconnect24. Virtual Console.

The "less than 250$" price tag is the same. People got used to the good news and said "OMG the Wii has GOT to be 199$ I bet it will be" because they got used to better news than they expected.

Guess what? Sometimes GIVING EXACTLY WHAT YOU PROMISE is good enough. And just as well, it SHOULD BE good enough.

For those of you who believed that 250 was too expensive from the start, that's your opinion. I'm sure plenty of others think the same way you do.

But as for the rest of us, I think I'm satisfied with how Nintendo delivered this time around.

i think wii in europe only next year, wii well see

» Singapore

So where would one find the Wii in Singapore? And of course When will Wii be out?

Danke.

Come on! They said Wii sports would be priced much less than the other games due to it being so... uhm... simple. So paying an extra $50 for it sounds like a rip off. Also, if Iiwata said they wanted to make the Wii into a living room's center piece, why remove a feature a family would love to have there, such as a DVD player?

You messed it up Nintendo.

And yet they said it would be a cheap system given the poor hardware specs... While $250 might be less expensive than the other consoles, it is NOT CHEAP.

by Ominatorx - 2006-09-14 14:26
» now to find

someone taking preorders! If you think about it, the price for the wii is $200 with the games being $50 ea. Since you get one with it, $250. I wouldn't use a dvd on any console, it usually messes up the lenses like on the ps2 or xbox.

Here's some sarcasm, since Microsoft and Sony think everyone is moving to hddvd and bluray(haha) why would they need to put a dvd player in the wii?

by Saboa - 2006-09-15 07:14
» Err no.

It's $250 not $200 because you can't buy it without the game.

Show me the option to buy the console for just $200 and I'll spend the rest on a game I really want.

by thegreenalien - 2006-09-15 07:17
» why 250??? why?!?!

oh well, guess i wont be picking up a wii on launch date along with zelda, i'll just pick up zelda and play it on my cube. i was gonna get a wii for 150-200 but now its 250, i guess i will just buy what i've always wanted to buy, a 600 dollar laptop. and no, i dont have any extra money to buy a wii. i will just buy it in a few years with the ps3 when they lower there prices. i still got the 360 though and cant wait for gears of war to come!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! and halo 3, thats gonna be wickedly awesome on xboxlive!!!!!!! !!!!

by XFiFiX - 2006-09-15 10:14
» WOOOOT!!

This is great. The pricing is well done, the games well done, and overall, WELL DONE NINTENDO!!! I can't wait for Christmas ;D

by Bearmon - 2006-09-20 12:25
» white ?????!!!!

nah, I will wait for more colors because this is only one color -- a white. Nah, I will wait.

by doesn't matter - 2006-10-09 14:25
» everybody just shut up

what the hell is wrong with everybody complaining about the price. go buy yourself a TMX elmo or are you gonna complain about that price too? get a job or ask some money from your MOMMY if you can't afford a mere $250. i hope people that complain about the price never get a wii because they don't deserve it. they are not real nintendo gamers. get a life. and a job. and move out from your moms attic you hobo. and get yourself a TMX elmo while your at it.
