wiiWe're sure you know Wii has a Bluetooth feature. But we thought we'd give you more than just a spec list this time:

According to a press release from Broadcom, the Wii will be the only game console to ship with a standard Bluetooth wireless game controller system and integrated WiFi solution for online gaming. Broadcom, the company that supplied the hardware, states the Wii will feature the industry's "highest level of commitment by a game console manufacturer to deliver a robust, state-of-the-art wireless gaming experience."

"The Wii game console will take advantage of the most popular wireless technologies to deliver an advanced user experience that no other competitive console can match," said Nintendo. "Broadcom's ability to supply and support custom features for both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi has enabled us to provide our customers with a unique gaming experience powered by high-performance, field-proven wireless solutions."

Wii is the first major gaming platform to have Bluetooth technology as a standard feature. This eliminates the pesky cables that connects the console, hand-held game controllers and other accessories. The Wii console will also have Broadcom's single-chip 54g® Wi-Fi solution, which provides a high-performance wireless link for playing online or multi-player games. In addition the next-gen platform will have the Broadcom BroadRange™ technology, which allows users to maintain higher data rates further from the access point.

The console uses WiFi and the controller use bluetooth. Unless you need to be more than 30ft from your TV you'll be ok...

@Norfair: The controllers (and very possibly other peripherals) use bluetooth; Wireless communication with other Wii's or a router for internet access of course is regular 802.11b or 802.11g (11mbit/s or 54mbit/s) wifi.

the point ppl should notice here is that the console will be very affordable and come with wireless controllers and wifi out of the box. something the 360 and ps3 wont have.

I hope rev has better wifi support than the ds. I had to change my network security because my ds didn't support it (not that it was worth it, ds online kind of blows right now). It angered me because my psp and xbox 360 supported it out of the box. and seriously nintendo needs better online support, the friend codes and gimped voice chat are terrible, after playing a 4v4 full voice chat deathmatch in syphon filter for the psp, i've lost a little faith in ds online.

This article is about Wii being the first console to have Bluetooth and WiFi as STANDARD features.

From what I've heard, the Bluetooth controllers and WiFi capabilities are not standard on the PS3 because they will forgo the 500 dollar console. I think the Bluetooth controllers will only come with the 600 dollar PS3 and as separate accessories. WiFi capability won't even be included in the 500 dollar PS3.

who in their right mind would pick up the ps3 that costs 500 dollars when you know that later on that you will buy all those accessories why not get the $600 one and you wouldnt have to wrry about any other thing except for the games and upgrading the hdd, also the 600 dollar one comes with wireless cont.(bluetooth), wifi, the hdmi input and 4 usb ports out the box.

get your facts together, also in europe sony is speculating whether they will hold back the release of the $499 one.

And the 500$ simes also to have wifi.

If you read on the ps3 section some insider guy did say that the 500$ will just not have the hdmi and no memery stick reader and a smaller hdd. He also did say that you can get al that exept hdmi leter. But it simes like it is beter to but in a 100$ more insted of tireing to find the stuff later.
