Wii Linux project: Debian etch v4.0 and Whiite v0.1 - Image 1

We hear from the folks at TehSkeen that Wii Linux has just upped in both content and features, and the once-proof of concept homebrew project is now ready for partial Linux testing. Debian is the flavor that's been chosen for the Nintendo Wii, and Debian etch 4.0 coupled with Whiite 0.1 seems to do the trick.

But according to the GC-Linux Team, brainstormers of the Wii Linux project, special care for installing this Linux distro on the Wii is needed.

That said, the team would rather have any beginner shy away from attempting the hazardous deed, which could upset the delicate stability of your homebrew-capable console. If you're ready to brave the unknown, ready yourself a USB keyboard and some spare SD flash cards, because this procedure is going to need both of them for installation and operation.

New features of the Debian etch 4.0 and Whiite 0.1 integration appear to include support for the PPC filesystem, larger USB storage support, some embedded Bluetooth support, and the enigmatic Whiite application.

But understand that the we said "appear," which means none of these are actually officially announced features, and some of them may be broken or non-functional at all. Our MSI bluetooth dongle doesn't pass the test, and neither did some of our USB Flash drives.

Now, homebrew developer nuvalo (SDLMame) of TehSkeen outlined a set of self-authored instructions, though these will only make sense to experienced homebrew and Linux users.

You can find them at the source link we've provided below, but make sure you know what you're doing BEFORE you start the executable the download below offers. We promise you, blue is not pretty when painted in error messages.
