Homebrew - Wii Linux Miight full beta 1 - Image 1The GC-Linux Team has released a massive update to the Wii Linux project. The project is now in its first full beta version, and has been renamed to Miight.

The Wii Linux project is basically a Linux OS for the Wii, based on GC Linux. Their last major update was Debian Etch 4.0 and Whiite 0.1, though the latter was later updated with support for USB devices.

Be warned that this version "requires a considerably larger ext3 partition than Whiite." According to the release notes, this is what's new:
  • Contains a GUI (XORG)
  • Wiimote support
  • On-screen keyboard
  • Many other apps
  • Wifi is untested
You can follow this link for the download, and you can follow the source link below for more information, and further instructions for downloading.

*UPDATE* Muzer has informed the Wiibrew community that the Beta 1 release was a leak, and so the download was taken down. A message from Muzer (thanks, Adamisgood36!):

I'm sorry, but I did not mean for this to be released. Trust me, it will be released soon, but there is still a lot of polish I haven't applied. I don't care who leaked it, I'll just take it off my server since it does not appear to have been uploaded elsewhere. However, if someone else uploads it, consider this project CANCELLED to the public. In this case, the full version will not be released, and only given to people I trust. I'm sorry it had to come to this, I didn't make it clear enough in the IRC channel that it was supposed to be a private beta. Sorry for any embarassment this may have caused, and I sincerly hope I do not have to cancel this, as I have had fun.

» why?

I don't understand why developers get so touchy when things are leaked. He doesn't seem to care that this was leaked, but by saying that if it is mirrored anywhere that he will cancel the whole project, just makes him a *****. When game developers games are leaked, they don't stop making it, they finish the damn thing and still release it.

" I didn't make it clear enough in the IRC channel that it was supposed to be a private beta "

So even though it's his own fault, he might cancel it if it gets spread? Sounds like he is just playing the Waninkoko Card to keep people from distributing it. Better go check to make sure no TEMPers released it, seeing as we already lost a good program to them.
