Wii lines: "mellow" and "less gangsta" than PS3 lines (and more drunk?)

You read a lot of accounts and listen and watch and think as you surf the Internet, chat with friends, and call up people - and you hear that so many PS3 lines were rowdy, weren't really lines (people clumped up in front of the door), and had its share of violence.

Then you get these kinds of stories about the Wii lines:
  • Compared to the PS3 lines, Wii lines were more self-policing. Somebody would pass out a sign-up sheet so people know what order the line is. This way you can go in and pee or play a bit at Wii demo kiosk and the other people in line will save your spot for you.
  • Compared to the PS3 lines, Wii lines were all smiles. Relaxed. Mellow. Little stress.
  • Compared to the PS3 lines, Wii lines tended to be more fun. People wearing costumes or with Nintendo stuff (pins, blankets, chairs, etc.). Projectors, TVs, SNES, NES, DS, etc... all so others could play Nintendo games while they wait.
Are these reports quick generalizations? Or is there a media bias for the Wii - that is, the media is only reporting good stuff about Wii lines and reporting bad stuff about Sony lines? Or do they show a real difference in temperament and personality between your typical PS3 liner-upper and your typical Wii liner-upper?

And then there's this DRUNK GUY in the WII LINE in this video from sssok:

We'd need one huge survey to find out the truth. So we'll close the article with what we found over at Gamespot. Their reports match what we've been hearing since the day before the launch: the Wii is love. "One observer noted that the crowds waiting for the Wii were decidedly 'less gangsta' than those who camped out for the PS3" and that "they seemed much more at ease and laid back than the PS3 crowd."

It's cause the nintendo fans are relaxed ppl, they love everyone and everything. The sony fans are wild beasts ready to kill for a playstation. 2 completely different, yet equal groups

This is how our line was. Tent, GameCube, sign-in sheet, everything. nobody was "in line" the whole time, but rather, it was like a big party. A full 24 hours of relaxed fun. And the best part is that we only had 34 people camp, while the store had 52 Wiis. Only a handful of morning-goers were turned away.

I am going to chalk it up to the resellers of the PS3 and the shortage of consoles.

The Nintendo Wii group were actual gamers and were there for the sytem (to keep not to resell via Ebay).

The PS3 group was mostly resellers and were not there to keep the machine, otherwise I think that it would have been more relaxed as long as there more of a supply of the consoles. We had to send away a handful of people, and sure they were disapointed but they didn't riot for it.

I'm sorry all the consoles have been taken up. Would like hugs? -hugged- Then a group of us watched anime on someone laptop. Most of played on our DS. It was like a tailgate party people brought food we all shared and laughed. We sent someone in chinese place to get food when we all ran out.

I can perrsoanlly confirm that our wii campout was not reckless at all and very civilised. People were very nice and even shared their drinks to help keep us warm. One lady bought us all tim bits and hot chocolates. I heard the PS3 campouts were crazy though and it was like every man for himself lol.

If the PS3 lines were just gamers and not scalpers and the other asorted scumbags there the lines would have been much calmer.
