Wii Japan software sales numbers for 2007: third party not doing too well |
Ó
If we look at software sales for the Nintendo Wii in Japan, it's easy to believe analysts when they say third parties are having a tough time trying to profit on the white hot console. According to Media Create's numbers of Wii games sold beginning this year up to December 2, the publisher next to Nintendo is far behind.
Nintendo is on top after selling 8,294,000 copies, and what follows is Namco Bandai with 658,000 sold. Square Enix comes third with 477,000, Capcom with 266,000, and Konami Digital with 221,000.
Among all publishers for the Wii, only Nintendo's game sales median reached a high 487,882. Square Enix came close since a single game, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, generated all its sales. Namco Bandai's median, on the other hand, failed to impress at 65,800 even with ten games in the market.
This year's list top 50 games for the Nintendo Wii was easily dominated by Wii Sports and Wii Play. While those games sold 2,250,000 and 1,832,000 respectively, the rest couldn't break a million in sales. Aside from Square Enix' lone Wii title, the top ten games are all by Nintendo.
Sega's Bleach Wii did well, but not enough to help the company get into the top five publishers. Samurai Warriors: Katana did some good to secure Koei's place in the top ten, while Tecmo almost got past its 11th spot with Swing Golf Pangya. For more numbers, click on the link below.
