The Wii Floats! - Image 1Nintendo has raised the bar on itself, increasing its target goal of selling Wii consoles by 18% and hoping to sell 16.5 million consoles by the end of the fiscal year.

Nintendo has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success and increased popularity. The Wii is the most popular console in Japan and, for the month of July, in Canada. Wii consoles and games sales have earned Nintendo a 500% increase from three months ago, from 15.6 billion Yen to a startling 80.3 billion. It's also been reported to have the most exclusive games among the next-gen consoles as of this month.

In lieu with this, not only did Nintendo announce a projected income of JPÂ¥ 1.4 trillion for this fiscal year, but it has also projected an 18% increase in Wii sales. If achieved, the goal would truly be 5.5 million units more than Sony's 11 million unit sales projection for the PlayStation 3, as reported. Nintendo also predicts that software titles will rise to 72 million units in sales, in contrast with the previous forecast of 55 million units.
