Updates on the Wiibrew side of things, this time from homebrew dev Hokutoy as he shares his latest project, puZSion, and another one from DragonMinded, as he recently outed a new version of his excellent media player app for the Nintendo Wii, DragonMedia Player.

First on the list is Hokutoy and his Jewel Quest-like game, puZSion. Already available in different platforms, the homebrew puzzler now comes to the Nintendo platform, packed with the same good ole fun features, and then some.

Developer's note:

Puzsion is a puzzle game very similar to MagicMatch games. Your goal is to make "chains" of 3 or more "jewels" that are one beside the next one.

Use Wiimote as pointer. "A" button selects gems, "B" button is for pause. "Home" button forces Game Over to quit current game.

Special jewels:

  • Puzsion jewel:
    • Acts like a "unite" jewel. It can chain diferent types of jewels
  • Destruction Jewel:
    • Select a random type of jewel and destroys all jewels of this type.

If you have no more chains avaliable, you lose time and a destruction jewel is created.

Now moving into another Wiibrew release, DragonMinded's DragonMedia Player. Now on version 0.25 Alpha, the latest update includes:

  • Added support for AAC, M4A and MP4 file formats!
  • Songs now continue to play from old directory when browsing through directories!
  • Fixed a crash bug with modules that don't load properly
  • Fixed an issue where sometimes it would take several seconds to play the next song

In case you still haven't heard of DragonMedia Player, this excellent audio player for the Nintendo Wii "aims to allow easy playback of any popular audio format from USB, SD, DVD and various internet sources."

Developer's note:

This is a subset of what I would like to see in the finished product.  As of now, it does sequential and shuffle play, and it only allows for file playback of the below listed formats.  In the future, more file sources will be added, as well as more sound codecs.  Look at the theme file under default.xml, as well as the documentation for themes to understand how to customize the display.  Look at the xml file under the english langauge selection to see how to translate.  Any utf8 string is accepted as a translation, but it is your responsibility to ensure that it fits on screen.  Be careful when skinning as some things do not have a fallback and will exit you back to the menu if done wrong.  This will change in the future.

Support for loading files off of usb and sd card is included as well as through the network on Samba shares.  M3u and pls type playlists are supported.  Support for multiple tracks on emulated formats is done through the seek bar.  Press (+) or (-) while your cursor is over the seek bar to jump ahead or back one track.  Alternatively, you can drag to scroll to a new track.

To run, please use the HBC.  Make sure you copy the dmp folder under /apps/ as it expects all the data to be there.  If you set the directory structure up properly, it should run with other homebrew launching methods as well.
