Wii Homebrew SNES9X - support for Homebrew Channel, front SD card |
Ó
Homebrew developer LoPsT, who gave us the Sega Genesis emulator for the Wii, has done it again with a new build for the SNES emulator for the Wii, SNES9X.SNES9X is now on version 3, and is greatly improved from the previous release. Not only does the new build support the recently released Homebrew Channel, but it also supports the Front SD card slot, the Wii Nunchuk, and much more.
Good things come in pairs as they say. This homebrew comes shortly after the most recent release of the PSP's own SNES emulator. Be sure to check the documentation included in the download archive for instructions on how to install the program.
Here's what's new in SNES9X Wii v3.0:
- Support for 2 Wiimote (fast connection)
- Support for classic controller
- Support Nunchuk
- Support SD Front (to load roms and savegames)
- Support savegame direct gcram
- Support for long file names
- Support for compressed files in ZIP
- Support for exit to the menu of Homebrew Channel.
- Support for consoles with RGB cable PAL60

This emulator works flawlessly. I just tried about 15 different ROMS and they all worked perfectly. Saves without a problem and sends you right back to the Homebrew Channel if you choose.
Great emulator.
I tried several roms but I can't get none to work! Same happened when I tried via the Twilight Hack... The error says Somthing about a bad checksome. Can som1 please help
Bad Checksum means the rom you have has been modified some how (english translation of japanese import without check fixed???). A lot of people get their roms from romhustler, try re-downloading it there.
You're absolutely right ArcaneView.
I get all my ROMS, however, at emuparadise.org and they all work fantastically.
If romhustler doesn't work, try there.
Can't get roms to show up. I put my roms in roms folder just like it said to, but it says it can't read them.
maybe you also try out emuasylum.com.
All roms I downloaded tehre worked fine ad they have a HUGE list of roms.
And remember: Only download roms if you own the original! xD
@jrberheron
Is your roms folder located at snes9x/roms at the root of your SD card? If so, then try re-downloading it to see if it'll fix it up, or recreate a roms folder and what it does.
This emulator works so well, all the gmes I've tried ran like they did when I had my SNES back then. I'm very happy being able to play SNES games like Kirby Superstar and Secret of Mana together with my sister for over 8 years. My thanks to LoPsT!
This is the error I get "Opendir(/snes9x/roms) failed with -64" I reinstalled it on my SDcard still same error.
DO you get this to work???
What is it you put in the SD Card? Please be spicific...
example....SD:\apps\snes9x \roms or is it SD:\snes9x\roms or what?
and when you put the card in does it just show up in your channel lineup or do you have to do something?
The ROMS don't go into the apps folder.
From the SD root directory, create a folder called :\snes9x\roms and put them all in there...
You also have to have a folder called :\snes9x\saves\
Now, make sure the SD card is in the Wii when you start up the Homebrew Channel and don't remove it until you turn the Wii off.
That should fix it for you.
I've had something similar to that when I tried a different version, minus the -64 part, but that was solved for me when I downloaded this version of the emulator.
So the /snes0x/roms folder is at the root at your SD card I presume. I'm sorry, but my only idea is that the -64 is probably the problem, and the only thought that comes to mind is that that may mean the length of your roms names are over 64, but I haven't seen a rom with a name over that length...
I'd suggest that you'd check out the tehskeen.com forums but I conducted a search for your error and found nothing , and also the article links to a Spanish forum which I'm not sure if you're able to translate or not to see if you can fix the problem.
I don't have the problem myself, so I don't know a way to help you directly. I'm sorry :(
You have to make a new snes9x folder, and then make a roms folder (place you roms in this folder) and place it IN the snes9x folder you just made. Then place the snes9x folder with the roms folder in it, into the root of you SD card.
I can't even see the snes9x channel.
I thought all I had to do was the following...
(sd:\apps\snes9 x\roms)
but from what Im seeing from others it may be...
(sd:\snes9x\rom s)
and if that dont work add snes9x in front of roms...
I know I could figure out how to make the roms come out as soon as I figure out how to see the Brew Channel....thats my REAL problem....please help.
Does anyone know of any NES or Genesis emulators that will work with the new Homebrew Channel?
@ lost23
If you can't see the snes9x channel in the HBC, then that means your .elf of the homebrew either:
-isn't in sd/apps/whatyourfolderi s
-isn't renamed to boot.elf (the HBC won't recognize the homebrew if the .elf isn't named boot)
Keep the .elf in a folder in apps so it will show up, but create a snes9x folder followed by a roms folder and saves folder (for save states and cartridge memory saves) inside it at the root of your SD card.
@jrbergeron
There is GenPlus for Genesis and FCE Ultra for NES

Hey guys, thanks for all the great information for this great tool!
I have a problem with my emulation. For some reason I cannot get the analog sticks to function on my Classic Controller with this snes9x emulator. Usually, this is a problem I can ignore in SNES games, because I'm cool with using the d-pad like the good old days.
However, I started playing Final Fantasy VI (J), and as soon as I got to the world map, my character by default walked constantly to the left. If I hit "right" on my d-pad, the character will move to the right, but "up" and "down" have no function. Therefore, I cannot move on to my next target location on the world map. My characters act perfectly fine in the towns, but only show this problem on the world map. Has anyone else experienced this problem with Final Fantasy VI (J) or Final Fantasy III (U)? I'm thinking it may have some sort of corellation to me not being able to use my analog stick on the classic controller. However, on the same note, I tried booting the game with the nunchuck one time, and the Wii-mote with nothing plugged in another time and had the same result.
Does anyone have any advice? The rom works perfectly on my computer, so there is nothing wrong with the rom as far as I can tell. Thank you for your time.
My friend just discovered that if you come out of a battle or come out of the menu while holding up or down, you can move one space up or one space down. However, you can only enter the menu when you are hugging up against a mountain chain or an area that causes your player to stop. This is a really strange bug and appears to be an emulator problem rather than a rom problem. Perhaps is has something to do with the graphics engine used for the world map of FF6. I wonder if the same thing happens with FF3 (U) or Secret of Evermore...
It's confirmed. The same problem exists with the US version rom of "Final Fantasy 3 (U)". I wonder how many other games this problem is effecting...
That sucks, I was thinking about playing FF3 at some time, but I guess I'll hold out until another release or play it on my computer.
From the other games I've played, I haven't had a problem...
