Wii homebrew - Firmware Updater v4.0 |
Ó
Wii homebrew developer waninkoko updated his Wii Firmware Updater to v4.0. The app allows you to update your Wii's firmware, installing only the needed apps, such as IOS, System Menu, channels, and the like.
waninkoko didn't leave us with a changelog, not even in the readme, so as far as that's concerned, we can just play charades with the updater and see what it's doing new. Do remember that the app comes with no warranty (it's homebrew for pete's sake), and waninkoko won't be responsible if improper usage leads to broken Wiis - just passing the disclaimer around.

Was already writing when you dropped a line, but thanks all the same, yulidanroni!

this works great, however the VC games and wiiware don't work will running via SD card through the SD card menu it does some check, anyway for the games that are legitemently signed, or bought from the wii shopping channel they all work fine.
I updated my friends wii with this and was able to run installed wads from an sd.. i tried with an 8gb sd card first but not even legitly bought channels worked on it.. so i tried my 2gig micro sd card and it worked with both.
Wait what does this do? so you can update with this and not lose any homebrew?
You can still play homebrew and backups. Before your use the firmware Updater thou make sure:
1. You have HBC installed (cant be reinstalled once at 4.0, so dont delete it by accident.) Also, HBC can not be run like vc/ww on the sd card.
2. Have the latest cIOS.
3. Install and patch ios 60. (You need this in order to install wads and play you "special" wad on the memory card. Also, its required if you eventually want to downgrade back to 3.2) You can get it from here.

The link doesnt contain illegal file, it just downloads ios60 from Nintendo and patches it. Don't download ios61 or the shop channel. THey will be given to you once you use the updater.
Either didn't mention it because he didn't know or just because he forgot, but after you patch IOS60 and update to 4.0 THEN you can load the Homebrew Channel on the Wii. Of course, its only on that Wii cause the IOS60 had been patched before going on up to 4.0
