Wii Homebrew Channel released |
Ó

The time of reckoning is at hand! The Wii Homebrew Channel has now been released to the public. Care of Team Twiizers, you can now launch Wii homebrew applications easily, right from your SD card.
You've seen the video demonstration of the Wii Homebrew Channel, and maybe you've even been able to run the beta version. Now it's full steam ahead. You'll still need the Twilight Hack savegame installed though, so better make sure you grab that along the way too (we've included the download below).
All detailed instructions on installing the Wii Homebrew Channel are in the readme file included. Make sure you take a careful look into it and understand absolutely everything before you take the plunge into Wiibrew-landia. The readme also has a section on RISKS, CAUTIONS, and SYSTEM UPDATES, so you better take note of it.
If you need any further information, a FAQ is listed in the website via the source link below. Enjoy the download, guys! Let the WiiBrew flow!
Thanks to SpongeFreak52 for the tip!

Menu loads up fine, installs fine, but nothing LOADS.
My Tip actually worked. ^_^
Anyhoo, works fine for me. I'm about to upload a demo video in a few moments actually.
Very Nice...Installed it a few hours ago, very nice channel.
The GUI is as good as it looks, easy to use. The Banner and Sound just add to it.
As for future updates i cant realy see any games worth updating for in the near future so im not too worried about it.
The N64 emualtor isnt bad for a start i tried Smash Bros it was playable just with slowdown but nonthe less still a great start.
Homebrew from now on can only get better.
Great work by the team!
I posted a video of my install a few hours back on youtube...

thanks again for the tip, SpongeFreak52! ^_^
No problem. And the video's up, in case anyone's curious how it works.

Try taking out any GC memory cards you may have in.
cool beans, BIH! just a note about YouTube links for future reference (and this also goes out to all you other readers who might post YouTube links in the future):
our commenting system is a bit... flawed. LOL i'm sure you've noticed. but just so you know, most of the time, the EQUAL sign is magically transformed to a PLUS sign. This character morphing apparently doesn't happen all the time. I've seen a couple of EQUAL signs that successfully end up in a posted comment, but it's pretty rare. *shrug*
so.... this is why your YouTube link doesn't work when you paste it after the usual "www.youtube.com/".
so there. just a tip...
anyhoo! thanks for posting this, BIH! We'll update the article to include an embed of your video!!! ^_^
Sorry about the audio nothing i could do about that(PC TV card doesnt have audio plugs) but its better then having to record it via my crappy cam.
Thanks again, SpongeFreak52! The article's been updated to include your video!
I remember when the first devs created programs for PSP...
And now we have EXACTLy the same situation with the Wii.
Somehow this seems nostalgic....
although it's only a few years since then. XD
Will this open the door for the wii to things that psp has such as emulators . ( i know the wii 64 is an emulator, I'm talking about maybe a ds emulator) plug in's , cpu speeds , homebrew ++
That worked like a charm. Thanks.
Have you tried using something to wire the audio cables into the microphone port? You can pick a cable like that up at any OfficeDepot I'm sure.
Well, there's already GB, GBA, NES, SNES, Genesis, Turbo Grafix, and more emulators out. Not to mention stuff like MAME and ScummVM. At this rate, I'd say the Wii would probably match or even excel the PSP's homebrew selection.
unfortunately, I don't think there will be a DS emu.
A good DS emu is not even out for PC, so before it will be ported to the Wii there will be a long time.
NoCash seems promising though. I played many games on it and many games run fluently on it. But there's also a huge list of games that have graphics or performance problems or won't run at all.
This Channel works like a charm! The GUI is simply amazing and I cannot thank the team that put this together enough. Running Apps like Emulators and Wad installation without the use of the Twilight Hack saves much time and effort. The N64 emulator "Wii64" that came with the package is a real step forward. It's slow but it's a start right? All we need now is coders to make a GBA emulator without the use of a Gecko card. Unless there's is one I don'e know about :) Awesome release though. A must have for all Wii people :)
i got the channel working now i wonder is it possible to add your own homebrew application to this channel? Say for example i want to add snes emulator, how do i do this, can't find any info on this matter. Thanks
Absolutely. You will have to do a little SD card content manipulation of your own though, if you're not willing to stream the homebrew apps from a dedicated machine on your network.
The installation of each homebew app is on a per app basis. The HBC loads apps either from over the network or what it can load from the root directory of an inserted SD card.
By virtue of how HBC loads apps, you'll have to place your extra applications inside the apps directory (you'll see it from SD root) under an appropriate directory name. Under that new directory name, you usually would extract the homebrew contents as is. Look to USBGecko to add new applications.
Then you can add your own Meta.XML file. This is where you add the description, author and app title - the same info you'd see once you select a certain app on HBC. Look to the other installed Meta.XML files in order to get a template.
If the app accesses its data using relative paths, you're pretty much done here. If it uses absolute paths, you might be able to work around it using the app's config file.
Without one, however, you'll just have to make do with those apps formatted and tested for HBC.
There are apps that may not work. You should look to the authors' sites to find any new update to their applications.
We haven't tested with RobertFC's SNES9x WE yet, however.
We'll update the article as soon as we and a couple of you can reconfirm that extra homebrew can be successfully added and works. Hope this helps.

Sweet jesus, I've spent hours searching for this information. Thanks Ceasar S. I'm gonna try this right now with a few different emulators. Btw, HBC rapes everything.
Who knew the only useful channel on the Wii would be made by modders?
Oh yes, everyone.
preciated.
I was trying to get the harvest moon 64 rom to work, but it wouldn't load. Does anyone know why this is and if there is a way to get it to work?
