Nintendo Wii - Image 1Wiigator shares his homebrew app creation to the Wii homebrew community, the Backup Launcher 0.3 gamma. It's an app that allows you to play your Wii backups on your non-modded Wii.

What's included in the download file are the cIOS installer, and  of course, the Backup Launcher 0.3 with banner. The developer notes that there is a slim chance that this might brick your Wii, but as long as you make sure and follow the onscreen instructions, you'll do fine.

As of 0.3 gamma, he says that while this version is definitely faster, there are still some videos that will play a little bit too slow. Speed will also depend on the quality of your DVD media.

Here's the changelog for this version:
  • Optimised speed
  • Higher compatibilty
  • Support loading 1:1 backups from disc channel

Q: How do I start a game from the disc channel?

A: You need to start Backup Launcher and press button "B" (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGU52_ttd9o&fmt=18).

This is what I have been waiting for. Especially since this is also supposed to have ocarina defaulted to OFF. That was causing a lot of my games not to load. So it took a few extra steps to run it.

I am a bit perplexed by the running copies from the disc channel. Why would I want to boot up the backup loader and then press B just so I can boot back into the main screen and then play it out of the disk channel, when I could just hit A at that point and run it from there?

I am HOPING that this is a first step, and eventually he will be able to make it run at bootup so the disc channel will just be patched to run the games from the start.

One thing I just thought, but have not checked.....

Once you press B to go back to the menu, will it load up ALL your games from the disk channel? Or do you have to go into the backup loader every time to press B, then run it from the disk channel?

If you only have to do it the first time the wii is turned on then it is actually pretty cool. Just leave the wii on and you have a softchip that works pretty good!
