Wii hardware tracking tool WiiTracker hits 1000 unique serial numbers |
Ó
Want to know what's inside your Nintendo Wii even before you've taken it out of its box? No, you don't have to run it through an X-Ray machine to do it. You simply need to punch in its serial number into WiiTracker, a nifty little website that tells you what's underneath the hood of your shiny new console just by that little string of numbers. And as we all know, no two serial numbers are the same - they're unique to each console, just like a fingerprint.
So how does WiiTracker find out just what kind of hardware your console of motion-sensing joy has under its shiny white casing? By comparing your Wii's serial number to its rapidly-expanding database of collected serial numbers, and then giving you an estimate based on similar number strings and hardware trends.
Having your Wii's serial number checked also contributes to the effort of mapping out and keeping track of what sort of stuff Nintendo's using to make Wii consoles.
If you're worried about getting a wrong estimate, rest easy - the guys behind WiiTracker have a strict manual verification practice to make sure that what you get is as accurate as possible. And to safeguard privacy, only two people in the WiiTracker team have access to the collected serial numbers, and the site itself does not keep track of or retain any personal information. Great!
Still a bit iffy about WiiTracker? Here's something else: the database of the unique serial codes they've collected has recently ballooned to 1,000. That's a lot of numbers to check against, which means that there's a really good chance you'll get an estimate that's more or less on the money.
So if you're still antsy about your Wii, head on over to WiiTracker and have it checked. It's always good to know more about the console that works hard to get you the videogaming happy you need, after all.
