X-OOM - Image 1Hankering for DVD-quality movies on the Wii? You're in luck, as X-OOM Software has just launched the X-OOM Movies services for the Nintendo Wii console. Available in their official website, the program is priced at GBP 19.99 or around US$ 40.

X-OOM's MJPEG-compatible software will enable Wii gamers to convert movies and TV programs for Wii playback. After installing the software into your PC, simply run the DVD of your choice in your PC and and save the file as "Movies on Wii". Once the DVD is fully converted, just transfer the file into your Wii's SD memory card. The software also allows movie editing (cutting scenes, etc.), and includes the Fit-To-Stick function that will let gamers load movies into the Wii memory card using the only available space.

It certainly a very useful tool for those who want to use the Wii's full potential as a living room entertainment console.

Nice idea. Probably also works well. But tell me this: Who the ***** gonna convert all your DVDs into "Movie to Wii"-Format??

Imagine the following scenario: Few buddys hang arround at you and after you player few rounds of Wii Sports or "insert game here" you all decide to chill and watch a movie. So after 15min of debating what movie you gonna watch, the host comes and says: w8888888 guys. I have to convert the movie fisrt to a card so my Wii can read it.

I mean lol yeah.. think you got the point..

"Wii's full potential as a living room entertainment console." - You truly made my day lol... worst statement ever.

» another rip off

wonder how good the quality is for the fact that you have to pay for it

So basically its a DVD to MJPEG conversion program. Why is this being announced exactly, and why does it deserve space on a weblog? Theres thousands of them available as free software. QJ is getting pretty rubbish recently, the ratio of "proper articles" to "adverts posing as articles" is too high for my liking. Move along people...

QJ has been slipping with the news, I mean come on, tell us something some "Legal" in NIntendo eye's. Also QJ stop blogging PS2/PS3/Xbox 260 news on Wii pages.

Why would anyone want to play DVDs on their Wii? I'd rather put them in my x360 or an upconverting DVD player before I would ever consider going through all that trouble to watch something on my Wii.

» Wii DVD

I think that we're definately working our way over to getting the Wii to play DVDs. Sure, converting takes time and space, but its something, right?

I don't have a DVD player at the moment as my old one is broken, I don't have a PS2, a 360 or any other console apart from the Wii.

Sure, advertising a product that can equally be matched by free software is a little odd, but it something. Hell, its giving everyone something to argue about.

I look forward to seeing more updates on the Wii DVD scene. Certainly would mean having less clutter around the house.

» Why

This doesn't make any good sense, because first of all if people have dvd's their going to have a real dvd player, and second where will they make space for this as small as the cards are anyway?

» agreed

and since you have a PC that is fast enough to convert and or play the DVD, why not watch it on there.

and i think TVersity will do a much better faster easier job, just to be able to play the movie on teh TV via Wii.

» Sigh.

Because there aren't enough free video converting apps already?

by titanicninja - 2007-08-22 02:44
» Umm...

Didn't nintendo decide that most people already have DVD Players so the wii doesn't need one.... so then... just watch it on the DVD Player... such a revolutionary concept.
