Wii games MIGHT use both motion-sensing and dual-analog

Wiiclip - Image 1

As we all know, Wii's classic controller comes with a third shoulder button. As much as this is a mystery to all of us, we guess it is safe to assume that it was placed there for a reason, albeit unrevealed. Chris Williams , a reader of gaming site Kotaku has some whacked out interesting theories about the button.

According to Williams, the mystery button might serve as a connection to a yet-to-be released clip that would allow users to attach the Wiimote with the classic controller. Williams, who's studying PhD in Mechanical Engineering by the way, explained that some games in the future may have a mix between dual-analog and motion-sensitive controls.

While there are no current games that can utilize this mod, we guess it can keep the Wiimote out of the Way in the meantime.

» wrong

It was originally intended for the vc controller to attach to the wiimote, but it was scrapped late in development and after manufacturing so the vc controllers shipped with the shoulder button and clasp anyway

I have never heard that anywhere from intendo. There was a mock-up done by one of the gaming sites just after the announcement of the Wiimote which showed a standard controller with a Wiimote caddy.

Wouldn't the above design just give SIXAXIS control?

» @ Timmy A

not quite, the SIXAXIS lacks pointer functionality and precision. It would basically be holding the Wiimote with both hands and with an old set of buttons.

the classic controller comes with that yellowy clip?

» they better not....

I am getting tired of having a console with 5000 different controllers. If they make games where you need the classic controller I will not be happy. I finally have 2 nunchucks....

» well no worries if

I got 4 Wii Remotes 4 Nunchucks and 2 Classics. Bring it on I say. Lets see the bickering is about a 20 dollar controller right?

by BigGoronSword - 2007-02-19 11:40
» SIXAXIS

Though it may not be like the SIXAXIS, at least this is Nintendo's way of showing that they can "steal" ideas too (considering that's all Sony has been doing to Nintendo for the past few years...)

» TRUE DAT!!!

Mannn other then the fact that u r obviously a nintendo fan tell them that they really bought the wii is because its cheap!! u didnt get a ps3 cuz its xpensive and if ur complaining about a 20 dollar controller then i think u should get a gamecube or an N64!!! that should be more your price range TaMs!!!!!

» ha!

It doesn't take a guy with a PhD to come up with that! That was the first thing I thought of when I got my first CC home and noticed the clip button. Not to mention the original concept for that from Nintendo so long ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like that anyway. In fact, it could be nice, even though the hanging wire would get annoying.

And don't forget, it could also be there to make other accessories for VC games...say like the mic for Hey you Pikachu. (Bleh)

If nothing else, it leaves Nintendo with some options. think about all the consoles over the year that ALL had expansion ports but never used them. Same idea.

» MAYBE

Maybe that's why the wire is on the bottom of the classic control.
