wiieuropeIt's official! The Wii will launch in Europe on December 8 at an estimated retail price of 249 Euros (£179 in the UK). This is according to Satoru Iwata, Global President of Nintendo, who held a press conference in London's Docklands today.

The Wii will include one wireless Wii Remote (39 Euros/£29 in UK), one Nunchuk (19 Euros/£14 in UK), and five different sports games in one disk. The console's launch will also be accompanied by the the Classic Controller (19 Euros/£14 in UK), 20 software titles, and Nintendo first party games (estimated at 49-59 Euros/£34-£39 in the UK).

Iwata confirmed some of the launch titles: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, UbisoftÂ’s Red Steel, EAÂ’s Need for Speed: Carbon, ActivisionÂ’s Tony HawkÂ’s Downhill Jam, THQÂ’s Disney/ PixarÂ’s Cars and SegaÂ’s Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz.

Iwata also emphasized the role of on-screen channels that make up the Wii Channel Menu. He stressed that this is the starting point for all the Wii's function. Basically, it allows users to pick games to play, get weather news, create, view, and send photos they can use in the games, and download classic games on the Virtual Console when connected to a TV. In a nutshell, there's nothing like a real "all-around console" -- and the Wii aims to claim that title.

# UK Ripped off againGuest 2006-09-15 03:28
Well whoopie

£179 to buy the wii in the UK, equiveilent to $336 US.

Then £43 for an extra controller?!

Getting a bit sick of Nintendo's Pricing policy. Wonder what the UK press conference was like : 'Well we're gonna make you all pay more for a Wii, but to make up for it we'll release weeks after everyone elase gets it'

£150 would of been a fair price, and £25 for an extra controller.

@ #2: Would you rather have it in December or March, like the DS?

Anyway, i don't mind. As long as I get the console on or just after the release date and I don't have to share it with my f*"king brother, I'm happy!

The price is terrible for a system that barely shows the power of a gamecube. You are practically paying 150 dollars for the controller sensor. Also the EU gets it way late.

Including Wii Sports is a nice gesture though. However the games look like they were done for the Super Nintendo. And as simple as a 5 dollar budget machine from Tiger electronics. It better be included or else no one would buy such a crap game.

The difference is Sony's PS3 is a super machine while the Wii is a gamecube rehash with a new controller.

Well I'm still exited it'll be release before christmas. Zelda is going to rock.

Nintendo a gamers best friend? Nah they are just another money grabbing multi-national like M$ & Sony.

At least M$ & Sony are ripping us off for next gen machines and not 5 year old technology.

I can't believe so many people are blind to this ripoff. The Wii is a scam to steal your money. Nintendo is painting the failed GameCube as a next-gen product, and you retards are eating it all up. Talk about s***** fed morons.

The Wii is not a next-gen system. It is debatable wether it's more powerful than the GC, and it is clearly inferior to the original Xbox because it can't even do pixel-shaders or play DVDs.

Nintendo's backwards mentallity will destroy this industry if the Wii is successful, which is a real longshot. Realistically, the Wii will most likely be dead-in-the-water. However, if you cretans want to pay hundreds of dollars for a company's failed garbage technology, go ahead and help kill off the videogame industry once and for all.

Wii is capable of specular maps and bloom and at the end of the day Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess looks much better than any Xbox 360 game out right now.

The price is pretty expensive but i'm going to import anyway so i'll save money on the exchange rate. Had my pre-order set in stone since last november.

As long as Nintendo & Sega are making games for the machine I couldn't give a rats ass what anyone else says. Nintendo always make AAA titles and I love playing them. (aside from the Mario Party games after Mario Party 64)

As crappy as the Xbox 360 is, Zelda and Mario do not even come close to looking as good as even the worst 360 games. Besides, when was the last time Nintendo actually released a real AAA game, ten years ago?

If people would stop being delusional and admit that the Wii sucks, then we can see some real progress in the videogame industry. Wii is bad for the industry and Nintendo is bad for gamers. I wish they would just give up already and be bought out like Sega was, so that the few decent properties they have can finally be put to good use.

Even if Mario and Zelda did have good graphics, they'd still look like ***** because Wii can't even do HD. #15 needs to get a clue.

Seriously whats with all the hate? Just because youre 12 and dont have jobs and your parents live in council flats and cant afford clean underwear, doesnt mean this is a bad system, now shut up. Graphics arent everything and thats what makes me sick, how do you think everyone could possibly cope when playing a SNES or mega drive, they had gameplay!

Now p1ss off.

Zelda and Mario Galaxy do not by any stretch of the imagination look better than any Xbox360 game. In my opinion, they look better than any Xbox game and well its Zelda and Mario. I love the Wii. I would gladly pay $250 for a Gamecube with the virtual console so I think $250 is a great pricepoint. Zelda and Mario have a lot of nostalgic value for me to go along with their great gameplay.

I don't beleive the number of people saying that £180 is bad for a next-gen machine - It's less than half as much as the PS3. OK, I admit it's a GC with a new controller and some new in-built apps, but it's the controller I want. It's just so innovative, and may even get my mum, dad and maybe even grandparents to get in on the action. I'm not saying it's an old person's console - From teenage titles like Zelda and titles for everyone like Wii Sports to kid-to-teenage titles like Mario, it's for ages 8-80.

Elderly people don't want to play videogames and they never will. It's so stupid trying to get parents and grandparents to play games. If your senile grandma wants to play a game, tell her to play "Let's remember what day it is." Wii sucks. It's true. Please stop being so blind.

Wii looks great, providing the first real chance to play in a new way since the birth of the light gun, as for the systems power, who cares?

The GC produced some great looking games and too much next gen power is wasted on HD, not everyone has a HD set you know, so I fully expect Wii games to look just fine, no one thinks Resi 4 or Metroid Echoes look poor do they?

So why not wait until you play a game on it before you take a stab at Nintendo for trying something different, at least you won;t have to remortgage the house to afford one, as with the PS3.

# price far too highGuest 2006-09-18 00:00
so 250e for the console? and 60e for the games?

well, thats far too high imho. with that pricing policy nintendo will not be able to compete in the christmas sales with the xbox 360.

ms will most likely drop the price for the 360 for christmas, and 300e is realistic for that console then.

with 360-games and wii-games at the same price level and the 360 having much more games by now, nintendo will loose the "nexgen wars" due to pure dumbness.

i thought they would not copy sonys mistakes, but obviously im wrong.

so for me it will be a bye-bye nexgen until the prices drop into a affordable segment (150e the console and 40-50e for the games are realistic and affordable for the wii).

also, i think nintendo does not notice one thing:

if a toy (and thats how n markets the wii) is too expensive, it wont be baught. 250e for a toy? never.

Exactly. I don't have HD, but all the TV shows look great on out 32", so I don't need HD. And anyway, even if the Wii had n64 graphics I'd still get it, for sheer innovation.
