Wii Ambassador Details

Melissa's Email

If you've been searching very hard, you might have come across some game forums and blogs talking about "Wii Parties" that will be happening later this year. It looks like they really are true. TheSilentAssassin, also known as TSA, revealed some information at The Hylia.

Nintendo selected a few people, through a criteria nobody really understands, and asked them to submit a profile of themselves. In the profiles, I'm guessing Nintendo tried to get a couple of people from each region and spread them out across the USA, and perhaps even the world.

Each ambassador picked gets to invite 30 other people to their Wii party. The location of the party is not known even to the people who were chosen. At the party, there will be eight Wiis and everyone in the party will be able to play for as long as they want to without any lines whatsoever. More importantly, there will be free food and drinks!

Now, I start to combine information from TSA's writing and an e-mail that Melissa of GameLife received. You can see the screenshot above. The date for her party is November 17th, 2006 and it's to be held in Los Angeles. It seems like TSA's party is also Los Angeles and he says that it's the very first party being held. For those who don't remember, November 17th is also the launch date of the PlayStation3.

So unless the PS3 is delayed (which is looking more and more likely these days), then the Wii might not launch until afterwards. They will definitely launch by the end of the month, but if both TSA and Melissa have been invited to the same party, that means it'll be taking place on November 17th. This is a launch party so I'm thinking a November release is basically confirmed now.

Then again, this could always be some sort of viral marketing campaign where Nintendo is trying to fake us out! But I think one viral in front of marketing is enough for now... Let's see how it plays out!

Update: It seems Melissa of GameLife made up the her e-mail invite. That may or may not be a way of covering her ass after what, if true, must have been a severe breach of an NDA she might have been aware of. They are however the type of people Nintendo might want at this "Wii Party." Sources also indicate that the Wii parties will begin in Mid-September. Basically, first three paragraphs are truth. Last three paragraphs are hazy.
