Wii = Middleweight?

BoxingStan Beer over at ITWire has a very interesting way of explaining how he sees the console war will proceed this 2007. He likens the battle between the Wii and the PS3 to a boxing match. Here's his words:

The parallels between the Nintendo and Sony new generation consoles war and a title fight seem appropriate. Sony, the reigning champ for the past 10 years in the home consoles space, has put forward a lumbering heavyweight in the PS3. Nintendo, challenging to regain its long lost mantle, has put forward a sprightly middleweight with an innovative new armory of blows in the Wii.

Naturally, in the early rounds the middleweight is going to duck and weave and outjab and inflict some damage on the heavyweight. However, there is still a doubt as whether the middleweight has enough firepower to go the distance with the heavyweight. That said, the heavyweight has yet to land a telling blow. Come March, if the heavyweight is still struggling, and the middleweight has some more tricks up its sleeve, we may see an upset.

All of the other facts he points out in his article you gaming-centric folks already know - how on the surface, everything looks spectacular for Nintendo and bleak for Sony. He cites the good PR and all the demand and sales that the Wii has generated since its launch. The article does however, do a good job of being neutral by pointing out that based on what we have right now, the only conclusive round of this long console-boxing-match that the Wii has won is round 1. There's still a lot of rounds to go.

The article notes that the PS3 still has a lot of potential and power to it and it's all too early to make a call.

Well? Who are you guys betting on? The middleweight or the heavyweight?

Not a Metaphor

Hey RommelTJ, It's not a metaphor, it's an analogy.

stfu

stfu its a metaphor okay? ANALOGIES ARE CONFUSING.

No...

It's an analogy. Metaphors are more symbolic and shorter. It's hard to explain. They are very similar though.

yeh

wii is really a bit lame and i would be surprised if you see too many good ungimmicky games on it. i have an xbox360 and while gears is brilliant (for a week) there are too few decent non-shooter games in existence for it. i think if ps3 can have as good a range as ps2 did it will be a pants down victory. but who knows, i just know wii wont win. i bought one and sold it a few days later, was boring.

yeah

yeah it is an unfair fight. but somehow little mac (nintendo) manages to put some blow on tyson (sony) and holyfield (microsoft). but i already know the outcome of these console wars. i bet on pretty much the same as the previous generation.
