Wardrobe malfunction: Princess Peach not playable in New Super Mario Bros. Wii due to her dress

Somebody get Princess Peach some sweatpants now, pronto! It's terribly sad that the Mario's love interest won't be playable in the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii. simply because of her balloon dress. Oh, the injustice!

Shigeru Miyamoto explains:

Originally, I thought it would be nice if we could have Princess Peach in there as a playable character. But in fact, the Toad characters have a physical that's a little big closer to Mario and Luigi. In particular, if we had one character out of the four that wore a dress, we would have to have a special processing and programming to handle how the skirt is handled within the gameplay.

What's wrong with my dress?

Oh, come on! Don't tell me none of you guys at Nintendo have heard or seen of skorts (shorts + skirt)?!?

The four playable characters in the NSMB Wii are the brothers Mario and Luigi and two toads. Because they all wear pants.

» hmm

well its a 1 - 4 player game so why would they need a fifth character anyways? unless of course they were going to replace one of the toads with peach... that would make sense :)

» wow

what a bunch of lazy asses

by haxor - 2009-10-18 02:32
» 100%

agree :)

its either laziness or they just wanna get the game out as soon as possible to milk it for the cash

most games these days come out incomplete and then require you to buy extras which should already be included in the game :/

» hurrr

**** Peach! Game would own if they replace toad with Wario

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-18 04:42
» HAHAHA

GHAHAHA.... Nintendo cracks me up sometimes. Its probably because the skirt is a bit dodgy. Cause 1-4 year olds cant see women doing fly kicks in a skirt. They would see bits which aren't suitable.

How is it a "lame excuse"? this is the wii they're talking about

It can just about render models and textures.

by HungrymaN - 2009-10-18 05:48
» f**** nintendo anyway

Microsoft and Sony ftw. They may be greedy but atleast they have games and consoles people actually want to play.

by haxor - 2009-10-18 05:56
» heh

the wii is more of a kids console anyways, it always gets flamed for being crap but the reason it sells so well is because every kid wants one :/

personally the only good game that i think has ever come out on the wii is super smash bros brawl

the only downside with Microsoft and Sony is that depsite them both having great consoles they are so bloody unreliable, RROD YLOD... clearly consoled ahead of thier time

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-18 06:25
» LOL......

54.2% Xbox's fail while PS3 is 0.5%. If your in that 0.5 your well unlucky. I find the PS3 more reliable than the 360 but Wii being the most reliable with the least games i would want to play.

Yea, God forbid Nintendo spend some damn money on game development. Damn company is almost as cheap as Microsoft, well, I guess no ones quite that bad, but they're coming close.

» Pantaloons!

OH COME ON! The dress doesn't have to be flowing. They can make the dress be just as stiff as it was in SUPER MARIO 2! This really IS a lame excuse...

» naw...

Microsoft just spends all of their gaming budget on halo, gears, and bribes to GTA....

Isn't this game already recycled from the 3 year old DS version?

Isn't the ONLY thing actually "new" about this game is 4 player and a couple new suits?

They are STILL to lazy to write skirt code to use a new character?

Can you imagine if the makers of Uncharted 2 were this lazy?

"let's just use some basic tomb raider 1 gameplay mechanics in this, no need to do too much WORK or try anything NEW and creative.

Yes, this game will sell for "many years." How can such a half-assed recycled game sell so well? What else is there? Yep, that's how nintendo does it.....

» Nope

They blow all their money on building houses which see if your happy or sad. Or your hot or cold. Angry or depressed.

Damn if i lived in that house with a X360 the fire sprinklers and calming music would be working overtime.

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-18 10:06
» Lol...

Did you just come to this conclusion. The Wii is basically N64, SNES, NES, GAMEBOY, and the rest in one. It is a console which is still living in the past.

But on Wii they only release the games which did well or had a good reception with the users on these past consoles.

Sony and Microsoft are making new games and suffering. Why dont we go back to the Stone Age? They have good heating.

» Funny...

because my wii is the console that's causing problems for me... not my ps3. my Wii disc drive stopped reading discs and nintendo charged me $83 to fix a read-only dvd drive >:(

by SuperSZ - 2009-10-18 16:56
» lazyness or lack of power?

so they won't put Peach as a playable character cause they are lazy or the Wii can't process the physics of her dress (according to the notice) ?

by SuperSZ - 2009-10-18 16:58
» I agree but

I agree, it would be awesome, but wouldn't have much sense, since Wario is Mario's enemy :/ ...

But if the 4 players are: Mario, Luigi and 2 Toads, that's lame. They should have put another character... there must be someone else...

by dbzking - 2009-10-18 17:33
» lol

haha o god damn i hate wii bu ti hate to come and say this *****ots wow they can put her just because of her gay as dress god stupid kids grow up wii my asssss

» Not buying

Well now I know I'm not buying it for a year+ after release. I can hold off on Mario that long to buy it cheaper/used. Totally lame excuse on Nintendo's part. I was looking forward to the ole' SMB2 cast of characters again, but I guess not.

Nintendo: Should we add a few lines of code to make a better product for our customer and fan base? NO!

by EarthBoundX5 - 2009-10-18 20:30
» Actually...

...the dress moved when she moved, so I guess they just don't have the man-power anymore to recreate that simple 2-sprite image effect in "3D". /sarcasm

by EarthBoundX5 - 2009-10-18 20:32
» Yoshi

I guess Yoshi is out of the question, he has no pants. I can't image how divide by zero that would be based on their bull***** excuse for Peach's dress.

by EarthBoundX5 - 2009-10-18 20:35
» lazy

lazy obviously. I'm actually betting its because they are afraid of little kids trying to look up Peach's dress and pulled this excuse out of their ass to avoid the "Nintendo is for little kids" ***** they keep getting.

by YAMI ANUBIS X - 2009-10-19 06:02
» Actually

Its not the same DS game, the DS game was like a remake of Super Mario Bros 1, while this one is more like a remake of 3.

It has all 9 Koopalings in this game. This game is ALOT different than the DS version, ALOT!

by SuperSZ - 2009-10-19 18:16
» @EarthBoundX5

Yoshi will be in the game, but not as a main character. There are some new gameplay videos in youtube, check them out, they are even in HD :)
