WAD Manager v1.1 - now with USB mass drive support - Image 1

WAD Manager version 1.1 now contains USB support (previous version here), and homebrew developer Waninkoko says that homebrew users on the Nintendo Wii will be able to manage their Virtual Console and WiiWare game data files on an attached USB drive.

Now we're not sure if the support is limited to USB flash or you could attach a USB external hard drive storage, but we can confirm that it works on Flash drives.

Waninkoko also advises that WAD Manager will not be able to read data from an attached USB drive as soon as the user inserts another SD card into the Wii console. It'll just spew corrupted data error messages. But WAD Manager is executable from Team Twiizer's Homebrew Channel (Beta 7, though) and that's a plus.

To sort, install and store files on a USB drive, make sure that you follow the same procedure as you would for SD cards: create a folder named WAD in the root directory on the USB drive. File all your WAD collections there (from Virtual Console and WiiWare, we must add), and they should be accessible immediately after running WAD Manager v1.1.

» Fix the link.

The download link goes to the Wii Homebrew Manager, not the WAD manager.

» Works with External HD

I just tested the new Wad Manager with my 2.5inch external HD and it works fine.

That'll make for some crazy storage space.

Pity Nintendo can't follow suit.

» slow!

just tried this out with my usb stick with 1 gb sd card inserted into it.

i thought the wii had hung up on the install of dr mario virus buster. i did not time it, but i had enough time to sit there, get impatient, get up and make a sandwich, sit back down, contemplate a hard reset, eat the sandwich, then it finished.

i then removed the channel, plugged the same card in the front sd slot, installed again and only had time to get off the couch before it was complete.

i was hoping this may pave the way for a usb hdd iso loader. but if its that slow to read, its just not going to happen.

» Homebrew Channel

This doesn't show up in the homebrew channel for me. I'm sure its not supported since nobody mentioned it. My question is what loader should I use to run this?
