Using LPT to mod the Wii? A video

There's a new video circulating around the intarwebs again, and apparently, it allows for playing Wii games without the need for an actual modchip. Over on YouTube, Textb00k writes about the mod he's got on video:

A modified Nintendo Wii boots a backup of Red Steel. There is no modchip in the Wii, there is a parallel port cable soldered to the drive board. The cable costs under 3 dollars to make.

As you can see, he even manages to use a Wiimote to full effect, so he's probably using more than one program to get everything up and running on a computer. He does mention some other items, such as a capture card and a bunch of programs, so be warned. This definitely needs some technical experience to test, as well as some guts. Still, we'll leave it up to you to see if it works or not. Just be careful.

No modchip? That's not correct. He's using that cable and an entire freaking PC as a modchip.

All a modchip does is to send certain signals at certain times. He's using a PC to send those signals, instead of a tiny chip. He still had to solder wires to the board. Wake me up when you don't have to void your warranty to do this.

Haven't this qj.net poster heard of video adaptors for pc? He's using the Wiimote, because it's connected to the Wii as normal... He could use the Wii connected to a normal TV but he has to have, aswell, a pc connected to that console... rofl

# Video Capture CardGuest 2007-02-27 05:11
It's a video capture card, so it's not "using your Wii on Windows". It is just using the monitor as a TV basically. Much easier then hauling a TV next to my PC and Wii.

Also, those who say they aren't interested unless a mod comes that doesn't void the warranty .. you're not a modder. I am glad that these mods require a level of experience and force you to open your Wii.

No he isnt notice the writting on the disc? that is facing right. If it was the wrong way then the writting would face the left way.

Same goes for real wii disc - the label is to face right not left.

this mod is easy takes almost no skill... solder the cable (tutorial in the readme if you find the file) and connect to printer port on PC... then run exe... Easy as that! you can use this if you dont wanna wait for a modchip to be mailed to you. also alot cheaper. so Have fun and pirate alot of game!!!! (NEVER BUY GAMES!!!!!!) ( Just joking, always buy the games that you like... only use this for backup purposes not to pirate materials... wii dont want the we to fail do we? (or is it we dont want wii to fail Eh either way...) lol Have fun....
