Wiimote Charging - Image 1As much as we'd like this to be a DIY Wiimote mod it isn't. Good news is that it should cost you only around US$ 29.

Sanko is about to release a charging station for the Wii remote controllers. The charger is said to utilize the Wii's USB port. All you have to do is replace the battery cover with the packaged battery pack and then you'll be able to use the charger.

Charge time takes around three and a half hours and each charge should last around 25 hours.

Each charger is sold separately, and as mentioned, should set you back by around US$ 29. You can save a bit by buying a two-pack which should cost around $53.

Sanko's charging station differs from Nyko's (which will soon be released in North America) in that Sanko will release charge stations separately.

» Power On?

i know with connect24 the Wii is "ON" all the time but does it actually have to be on to charge?

» Nice

Looks like a very nice unit and matches well with the simplistic style of the Wii :) A lot of manufaturers would try to add some stupid gimmik, like rubber grips etc... so this is a nice addition to see - especially with the lack of an official rechargable battery pack.

If you mean the Wii recieving any power at all, then yes. You can't unplug the Wii and expect anything connected to it to work. Also, when plugged in the Wii is always on, whether on connect24, active, or on standby(red light).

» but...

each one will take up a usb port? they should make each one a hub or something so that we can charge 4 at a time.

If you have the WiiConnect24 on and you shut the system off then it is still on in a sense. You can plug this charger in and as long as WiiConnect is turned it it will charge it. I charge my Xbox 360 controllers thru the usb port and the Wii wasnt on. Jus tthe WiiConnect24 was. It works fine with Xbox so why not Wii Controllers
